Lone Star Spring 2020 ADN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

From reading everyone that got into Lone Star nursing programs I hypothesized one very important point. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you get anything less than A's in English and A&P there is NO chance of admission.

The only instance I calculated a chance is a "B" in English, an "A" in A&P and a perfect 100% on the HESI. Other than that, A's in your classes with a minimum 88% on the exam is my observed formula for entrance.

I see why so many (myself included) get so worked up about the HESI. Anyone else taking the test next week at a Lone Star?

If anyone has taken A&P at a Lone Star over a summer session, how did you find attaining an A over the six-week period? Also, if anyone wants to part with a lab book...(?)

Hey hopefuls!

I can definitely imagine how y'all are feeling- I was in the same position as y'all last year! I initially applied for the Spring 2019 cohort with a 7.376 (84.4 on HESI and A's in both A&P 1 & ENGL). I was listed as an alternate and never got a call back. However, from what I know of, the last alternate that had gotten accepted had a score of 7.4!
I did go to the Kingwood orientation (as all alternates and Kingwood accepted peers had to) and the director said it's only getting more competitive year after year.

Earlier this year, I ended up retaking the HESI and ended up getting a 91.2 which bumped up my overall score to 7.648/8 and got accepted into CyFair Fall 2019's cohort!

After applying to 2 different semesters I feel like I know a bit about the process so if you guys have any questions about the process, feel free to ask! ?

Hello all, I plan on applying for the lvn to and nursing track, I have one question. “ what does the tsi math portion consist of?” I’ve been out of school for years and am a little nervous about the math portion of this exam

What about the TSI exam, specifically the math portion! I’m just starting the process and am very nervous. Good luck with your journey

Much appreciated, hope all is well with your progress so far. I’m in a bit of a situation about the overall scores since we’re pretty much blind as to what the cutoff will be. I have a 7.52 (88% on Hesi & A’s in both classes). Since they only take your most recent HESI score, I’m trying to decide if I should risk taking the HESI again for a higher score ?

I didn't have to take a TSI exam, because I already have a Bachelor's degree. But I think students are exempt from taking any TSI placement exams if you've taken the SAT, ACT, STAAR, TAAS, or TAKS test in high school.

Honestly, I think your score is fine! I would say only take the exam again if you've studied for a while and confident that you'll get a higher score.

Do you recall any application period within the last few semesters that a 7.52 wasnt good enough? Its really risky to try for a 88+. I think if I get any lower, that puts me in a tough situation as I’ll automatically be in a 7.4 range or less. But if its been known to where around a 7.52 doesnt work out for people, then i’ll do the HESI over.

I think it's a good enough score! If you do retake it and score lower, you won't have enough time to retake it again before the deadline because of the 60 day rule.

From previous forums, it looks like a 7.52 score gets accepted. However, I'm not sure how competitive this upcoming spring cohort will be because it looks like every semester is only getting more competitive.

Congratulations!! Can you tell me the point total you had? And I'm assuming for this Fall? Amazing!! Good luck in school.

Thank you! I had a 7.33 score! I had an A in Anatomy a B on English (i have notice that the anatomy grade is weighed a little heavier than English) and a 94 on my hesi!!

Regarding the comment above with a 7.33 score, I’m a bit confused now about if I added my score up correctly now. Both A’s & a 88 HESI score is a 7.52 correct?

7.52 is correct. 88/25 is 3.52 + 4 for the A's.

You were accepted and reapplying? I'm confused. It's early and I'm not young. If that cutoff was 7.54 you cut it pretty close there. Books are really that much? I hear you buy 90% of your books first semester and got through them over the whole program.

Books are very pricey! I’m in the process of buying them now! We have a bundle that is required (all ebooks) and that’s $500 alone. Then then are about 6-7 more books we need to get on our own! You can buy previous editions, just as long as they aren’t more than one edition older! Yes we buy all our books upfront!

i do agree to start saving money now because from the moment you turn in you Application you will be spending money! Shots, cpr, books supplies and none of it is cheap
