Lone Star Spring 2020 ADN

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

From reading everyone that got into Lone Star nursing programs I hypothesized one very important point. Correct me if I'm wrong but if you get anything less than A's in English and A&P there is NO chance of admission.

The only instance I calculated a chance is a "B" in English, an "A" in A&P and a perfect 100% on the HESI. Other than that, A's in your classes with a minimum 88% on the exam is my observed formula for entrance.

I see why so many (myself included) get so worked up about the HESI. Anyone else taking the test next week at a Lone Star?

If anyone has taken A&P at a Lone Star over a summer session, how did you find attaining an A over the six-week period? Also, if anyone wants to part with a lab book...(?)

Hey everyone! I just retook the HESI this morning and got a 95.6% ? so I am applying to Kingwood with a 7.824! I’m so excited, and now the waiting begins for me!

Congratulations. How long did you study ?

Thank you! About a week. I purchased the review book this time and it helped me bump up my grade.

Oh wow! A week?that’s great! Is this your first time taking it ? I take mine on the 25th and I’m freaking out . Are you attending the nursing session tomorrow at kingwood ?

No I’m not attending that. This was my second time taking the HESI. I applied during the Fall application period and was accepted into NH with a 7.456, but I turned it down. I decided that Kingwoods night program would work out much better for me. I’m trying to avoid daycare costs so I can afford to work less throughout the program. I knew Spring application period would be much more competitive so I retook the HESI just to improve my chances.

Good luck taking your test! You have lots of time to study, you'll do great!

What would you recommend I study ? I have the hesi book, but is it exactly like the test ?

I thought it was pretty helpful. I just read through the tips for grammar and reading comprehension. Then I studied all the vocab, and I did see some of the words on my test from that list, I didn’t do any extra quizlets for vocab since a lot of the time you can just tell from the sentence what the word means. Then for Math I didn’t use the book, I only watched Math Dude Acosta on YouTube and got 100% just from his HESI videos. For A&P I studied the book, and used quizlets and saw many questions from both of them on the test.

Thank you so much! I hope I make a high score and get in.

Your welcome, even with my score I’m still nervous I won’t get in. It was so competitive this year!

I am so excited! I just finished my Anatomy yesterday with an A. My score is 7.84. I have to hold off submitting my application to CyFair because Quest gave me the wrong Hep B titer score. It looks like I might have to repeat the shots but I can't say for sure until I get my new and numerical titer. Anyone have an issue with their shots?

If everyone is done for the semester, we should start that list full of scores soon.

Hello everyone. Thanks to whoever made this discussion forum. My name is Luis. I am 29 years young and I'm going to be an RN.

My mother, sister, and a few cousins are RN's. They have fulfillment in their work which is what I am looking for. In addition, they have never been laid off and have seen nothing but pay increases. I have been in the engineering field as a drafter/designer for the past five years. This field does not give me the type of fulfillment I am looking for nor does it pay well and I've been laid off three times. I can't wait to start this new chapter in life and I wish the best to all of you and hope to see you in the program. God Bless.

I didn't get into the Fall 2019 RN program with a score of 7.13. I retook English 1301 and got an A. New score is 7.568. My grades are 89 on the Hesi, A in Anatomy and now an A in English. I just reapplied today and my 1st choice is Cy Fair but I'll drive to Kingwood if I have to. Let's see what happens. If I can be of any help let me know.
