Published

Hey everyone I was starting a thread for all the fall 16 hopefuls for all the campus's at lonestar!

I take my hesi feb 18 and nervous doesn't even begin to describe my feelings!!!! Lol, I think I'll be okay on the math portion, it's the grammar and a&p that are causing my sleepless nights!!! Predicates, me or I, prepositional adjectives? Whaaat?? Lol and then a&p because there's soooo much and you have noooo clue what to focus on. I'm a bundle of nerves to say the very least lol

How about yall?!

My first choice is going to be kingwood, then maybe cyfair or north harris, I haven't decided yet, I want to get this test out of the way first!!

And can ya'll believe hcc closed their program down this year..... I was upset about that that was my first pick!

Hello! So are you able to apply for the ADN and the LVN simultaneously? I haven't really looked up anything LVN related. I've been looking through older threads and saw someone else had mentioned it. I'm thinking of retaking A&P I in the Summer to get the A that I need, and I still have time I suppose. I've yet to take the HESI, very apprrehensive about it! :nailbiting:

Yes, you can apply to both. Personally, I chose LVN beforehand because I wanted to get to working as quickly as possible; I didn't want to spend 2 years in school full-time, at that particular time. I graduated in 2012 from the LVN program and am just now applying to the RN transition.

I would say that if you get accepted into the basic track RN program, and are able to do it, go for it, definitely. I did the LVN because that simply wasn't an option for me at the time.

Good luck!

Ah, I see! Thanks so much for the info! I went ahead and made an appointment to speak to my Advisor again. The system won't let me add a&p I for summer session because I'm currently taking it. I'd like to ask about the LVN and transition as well. Better to have all bases covered for that "what-if" scenario!

Is there a point-based system to apply and be accepted for lvn and transition? I'd imagine it wouldn't be as competitive? I up and quit my job after 8 years to come back to school, so I am so ready!

Good luck to you both!!

Just an FYI, I applied to CF & NH and got chosen as an alternate with a score of 6.96. So the average acceptance of 6.75 is probably not true, because I would have ben accepted right off the bat. This time around I have a 7.19.

Well, that's a little alarming. The Advisor for North Harris told me the lowest they took last year was a 6.75. I'm curious as to why she would tell me that. She did say that the number of applicants fluctuates and there's always a possibility that there could be less or more applying.

From my experience in dealing with the various nursing programs over the last 5 years, I have come to realize that North Harris takes A LOT of students and weeds them out over the course of the year. I too, knew somebody who got into NH with a score below 7 (it was on the 11 point scale, but just the same). They typically accept more, and have a higher attrition rate than any of the other campuses.

Kingwood and Montgomery are quite different. They typically only accept as many as they can truly handle, with a far lower attrition rate.

The cutoff score for Kingwood last year was in the 7.2 range. That isn't a rumor. That's straight from the program director's mouth.

There is a point based system. It's on an 8 point scale. Four points of that score comes from an average of your HESI scores. The other four points are calculated from your GPA from A&P 1 OR 2, English 1301 and Pharmacology.

For example...

I had an A for each of those 3 classes, so that gives me a 4.0 in each one. 12 total / 3 = 4 points (average). For my HESI I earned 3.74 points. So my application score is 7.74/8.

North Harris accepts around 120 each time. Within the first couple weeks, expect about 20 of those to drop. Over the course of the semester you'll have more drop. By the end it'll probably be close to half. I've heard that kingwood and Montgomery accept 50 each. And I think cyfair may be 75.

Does the math portion of HESI contain fill in the blank? Examples please..

I think that it does. I'm not 100% sure though. However. They are elementary level questions.

I'm scheduled to retake the HESI in a week. This will be my second time taking it. My first score was 84. I'm more nervous this time around. Any suggestions on what I should focus most on ?

Oh, ok, so the same scoring system applies to the LVN and LVN-RN transition track programs as well. I wasn't sure if it was the same.

I have an A in English, but at this point, I think I'll only have a B in a&p 1; and I know that they'll take the higher of the 2 (a&p 1 and 2). Did any of y'all find a&p 2 more easier than 1? I'm debating on retaking 1 this summer or just taking 2 during the summer.

I thought Kingwood and CyFair took 80 each time? I honestly never even knew about North Harris!

It's nice to come across this thread....I barely made my hesi with an 88%, so I'm applying with a 7.52 to cyfair and north harris. Fingers crossed
