Hi,
This is my first post! I wanted to see if anyone out there is applying to Loma Linda University School of Nursing for the winter 2011 quarter?? Or if anyone has had an interview or anything like that!
Thanks
I was thinking about going to CSUSB before, but there are like 4 more classes that I would have to take for pre-reqs. I got lucky since LLU accepted my interpersonal communication class for public speaking and they only require intermediate algebra, so I didnt have to go any further in math. I know that I dont qualify for any grants according to the fafsa, I can only get loans. We normally have to pay every year at tax season since my husband owns his own business, so it delays the taxes actually getting done. We always have to get an extension so the business taxes were just finished and now I have to give FA my signed copy. I think she said I can fax it in. I have done all the other forms already, they are just waiting on that one. I havent had any FA in the past, so I am hoping I can get all federal loans, since they are the lowest interest rates, but if not I will try for personal loans. Have you looked at Sallie Mae. I know they have a program that if you dont get as much as you need they can help. I thinks it is awesome all the benefits we get going to LLU. Nice!!
You only get I think up to 10,500 if your a sophmore and 12,500 a year through the school if your a junior. I looked at Sallie Mae but I don't remeber what they offer. I will check again though. Also check with Wells Fargo they had a Med-Cap loan for students in health related programs and the program is low interest and you don't have to pay it back until after you graduate but the sooner you start paying the better since interest adds up. This loan has the best benefits I have seen and is mentioned in a ot of articles about student loans.
So I called LLU and wanted to know how the waiting list worked and they said they send out three letters:
1. Acceptance: You definitely have a spot for Winter
2. Alternative List: You get a spot in Winter 2011 if one opens up or you can just get a spot for Spring 2011.
3. You didn't get a spot in Winter 2011 so you need to send an email to them so then can re-evaluate you for Spring 2011, which is the easiest quarter to get into.
I think I am getting letter #2, but I thought I woudl post this info since it might be helpful for other students applying to LLU.
Hi Christi,
Thank you for the information. I'm on the Alternate List of winter 2011, too. I called in last week and I thought Heather told me that the alternate list does not guarantee a spot in the Spring 2011. That makes me so sad. I hope I was wrong about this. Are you sure the Alternate List guarantee a spot in Spring 2011? I pray that I can get in.
She is right. I was mistaken but it depends on what your letter says. They were mailed out on Tuesday so at east we should all know by next week. Obviously I woudl go by what the admissions director said since I called and the lady who runs the front told me three letters are sent out. I think Healther would know more then the woman I spoke too. Since Spring is easier to get into I am praying that I get in as well, since I gave a lot up to pursue this career change.

At CSUSB you can only take nursing classes if you are in the program. We have to take other classes like epidemiology, and health promotion. Lucky for me I was a public health major so LLU has given credit for those classes and the research requirement since I had a research class and statistics. If money is an issue you could save at least 10k by going to CSUSB. I only get loans so I have to get loans privately and hope for scholarships along the way. Since I havea degree I can only get loans through the school and only 10,500 for the firstyear and then it goes up to 12,500 and thats a year so I am planning on having to borrow 20k a year and live on a tight budget like I did before, whcih is fine since I live at home and my car is paid for,so. Having even a part-time jobis difficult in nursing school so I do not want to have to work. If you received financial aid before you will robably get it. Just look at the site since you get the Cal Grant f you are under the income bracket. Also going to LLU your medical insurance is included in your fees and you get to go to the draysons center free since you pay for it with your fees. Also if its been more then 6 weeks call FA and talk to the nursing rep so you get your application done faster.
