Loma Linda University Winter 2011

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi,

This is my first post! I wanted to see if anyone out there is applying to Loma Linda University School of Nursing for the winter 2011 quarter?? Or if anyone has had an interview or anything like that!

Thanks

So I just received an email from LLU and was curious since it seemed a generic email. I have been put on their waiting list but its called their alternative list. I think the commitee meets one more time in October and then decides on who to pick from the waiting list depending on who accepts a place in their program. Good luck to everyone else. It also appears we have to do a background check which is 50 dollars.

I just received an email saying I was accepted for winter quarter! I am so excited :) They will be sending an official letter within a couple of weeks. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that you get in as well!!! Hopefully we will be classmates in Jan. Let me know if you hear anything else next month after they meet again :)

Hey! My hubby is in the Military and we are possibly moving back to 29 Palms, CA Feb. of next year....how far is Loma Linda from 29 palms, or Yucca Valley....cause it's the closest nursing school I can find!

I believe Loma Linda is like 1 1/2 to 2 hours from 29 Palms. There is a community college that has a nursing program in Joshua Tree, which is like 20-30 minutes from 29 Palms. It is called Copper Mountain College. That would be the closest nursing program to where you will be. There is also a community college in Victorville which is about 1 1/2 hours away and another in Palm Desert which is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours away. They both offer an Associate degree. If you are looking for a Bachelor's degree, LLU and Cal State San Bernardino are the ones. I hope this was helpful for you. Let me know if you have ny othr questions :)

Conngrats on getting in. Just curious but what are you stats like GPA and things. I think we received the same on the TEAS which was a 76. Hopefully we will be in the same class as well. I actually was hoping to get into Spring 2011 so i woudl have 3 months to prepare and spend time with my daughter who is barely 1.

29 Palms is a good hour and half drive but lik ethe other poster said CSUSB has a campus out in the desert. DO several searched since many schools may not show up first.

Thank you! In the classes that LLU requires I have all A's and 1 B. I am finishing up the last 4 classes this semester..eeek! It sure is tough this semester, but I can imagine that nursing school will be much more. So I guess it is preparing me! I did score a 76.5% on the TEAS test. I see where you are coming from though, get as much time as you can in with your little girl, you will be very busy once nursing school starts. I don't have any children, so it makes it a little bit easier for me. I am just waiting to get the official letter so I know what exactly needs to be done, because I am guessing everyone who was selected has to claim their spot by a certain time.

Did you sign in and look at the checklist. Even though I am on the waiting list I still was able to see the checklist so I can get thing s done in case a spot opens up for me or if I get in Spring 2011. I am finishing up my last pre-req and re-taking anatomy since mine has already expired. Again congrats and maybe I will see you in Winter. Are you taking the accelerated track or the regular track.

Christi

Where did you see the checklist at? Did you login in under the application log in or somewhere else? I am taking the regular track since I don't have a degree. Are you doing the accelerated or regular?

In the email I received it said login and then go to the apply link that comes up once you login through the application login and then you get into the student website and click on student resources. My three needs were my final transcripts, back ground check and health clearance with a TB test. I am hoping to stay in the accelerated track since it can take 1 or 2 quarters off the program so, thats like 20 k of savings if I can keep a 3.3 gpa.

The accelerated track is for students that already have a degree, right? My letter didn't say anything about logging in to the website, it just said I will be receiving a letter with information in a couple weeks. hmmmm. I am sure I will need the same type of things you are needing. I think we have to have CPR as well, but I guess I will wait and see what the letter says. So with the accelerated track, you have to stay above a 3.3? What happens if you go below that, do they move you to the regular track?

I am sure al your requirements will be listed in your letter but it might be on your application information online. Yes, you need a bachelro's degree for the accelerated track and if I drop below a 3.3 I get but into the regular track, so that is a little stressful since most RN students say the coursework is hard and straigh A students do not stay an A student in nursing school. SO I am hoping to have a study patner or a few friends who can study with me or do studt groups. I already have credit for 3 classes so that helps. FYI ther are some classes you can take at CSUSB and they will be less. Thanks for the info. I forgot abour CPR even though they did not mention it in my interview. I am looking into volunteering at LLUCH just in case I do no tget in the program in winter so I will definitely get in for Spring.

I have heard that too with the grades. A friend of mine who was a straight A student went to Valley and she had a hard time keeping B grades. I know its going to be tough, but worth it in the end :) The classes at CSUSB, are they nursing classes? That would be nice to have something a little cheaper...I am still trying to find out about if I can get all the cost of LLU covered by loans and such.
