I'm an FNP with 4 months of primary care experience looking to move into doing locum tenens. For those who have done it what was your experience like? Also, what was the average hourly pay? I don't want to take a pay cut. Thanks!

Hello,

I am doing locum tenens now as an FNP.

Specializes in ER, HH, CTICU, corrections, cardiology, hospice.

I've done locums, had issues with housing with my first company. A good experience with my second company. Hourly for 1099 form $50-65/hr. With 1099- no benefits- no cme, no pto, no health insurance, pay your own fica and other taxes.

Specializes in ER/Tele, Med-Surg, Faculty, Urgent Care.

I would suggest you get at least one year if not two of experience where you are seeing all ages and able to perform basic procedures, suturing, casting, interpreting X-rays/ekgs etc. Managing polypharmacy of pts with co-morbid dx such as HTN/DMII/obesity/renal etc. Above pay is standard but in New Mexico you also have to pay gross receipts tax of 8% on top of federal/state taxes you need to ask for about $60-65 per hour.

Specializes in Surgery.

In the Boston suburbs I've been quoted $75/hr. Seems like a good gig but like PP said, I'd get a year of experience first..
