Do you think the lock downs were necessary? I personally do. We were so overwhelmed with patients and that was WITH measures in place to reduce spread.  I know people, however, (including some in health-care but not those that were on the front line of Covid) that think it was all a bunch of BS and should never have been implemented.  Looking for thoughts from others in the field that saw what it did to hospitals and their staff.

Just wish we were sensible and took more of a scientific approach like China. But we are too consumer driven to do anything sensible. China has very reasonable lock-down measures in place for all of their citizens and COVID is almost non-existent there. We could learn a thing or two from China.

You realise China is a communist country which when nessessary litterally locked down its residents?

First off **** China.  They are the antithesis of the west. The CCP is evil AF.

Also, "Sensible and "scientific" do not describe China's lock downs or ours for that matter. There is no evidence that they stopped the spread. In fact they may have prolonged this whe ordeal. That of course still needs to be determined. IMO we should have cut off all people coming in from China... everyone coming from there and other hot zones. Then built more hospitals. Inoculation gave 29 different antibodies to 29 different antigens. This in conjunction with a vaccine and ASKING those with symptoms to stay home, while from day one financialy incentivizing self isolation (paid in full to stay home for 10 days if positive) as well as offering medical exams that are paid for by Pfizer, Moderna and, J&J - during and for 6 months post completion of vaccination series to those who do not have insurance. This alone would have greatly increased our vaccination percentages. This would have been vastly more effective than ordering people to stay in inside... we are Americans, we don't like being told what to do and if you do, you will fail... which is what happened.

Masks Cut Covid Spread in Schools, Study Finds https://nyti.ms/3O8SdOh

“This study shows that if people are wearing masks as a group, that it reduces transmission for everyone in the population, and it reduces school absences and teacher absences,” Dr. Raifman said.

The study was published in NEJM.

Common sense mitigation using masks and vaccination will get us to the other side of pandemics.

Yes, American mitigation failed because too many members of the population were more inspired by messages of (belligerent) "freedom" and "individual rights" than they were of national unification against a common threat.

Freedom ends when you jeopardize other people's well-being and safety. The vaccine has proven to be effective at stopping the spread and ultimately making us all a lot safer and free to going back to do whatever we want to. I 100% trust the scientist and science that the vaccines went through rigorous testing before they were approved by the CDC. We have to keep pushing back on anti-science politicians who believe simple prevention measures somehow take away our freedom. Masks, lock-downs, and vaccines may be temporarily disruption, but death is a lot more inconvenient.
