Living in CT!

A friend of mine works for Maxim and lives in CT (the Hartford area) ...you should call them because i know they have several offices around the country

I don't know about any others but Apple HealthCare doesn't pay good. I worked as a nurse's aide there whilst going through LPN school. They start aides at somewhere around $10 an hour (I think I started at $10.40 with 2 years experience). They started a friend of mine as an LPN there at $18 p/h. I can assume by trend that they start RNs at the lower end of the range.

I'm not sure what it's like living in the Phillipines so I am not trying to offend. If you have a choice of places to go, CT should not be on the list unless you have friends, family here. I am originally from the South and we moved here for my husband's job. As soon as nursing school is over, we are leaving. Ct is loaded with crime. Hartford, New Haven, Bridgeport, so many guns, so much violence. It is so visually depressing, especially in the winter. Last year, it did not get warm until June. I work as a Medical Assistant in a doc office right now since I am in nursing school and make 16.00 an hour. Not sure what nurse salaries are. However, it is all relative. The price of groceries here is astronomical compared to what we used to pay in Atlanta, GA. We could buy so much more with our money there. Sorry to e so down on CT, maybe because it is just not home to me. Good luck with your move.

I grew up in Stamford, CT, Fairfield County. We are supposed to be the "richest" county in the nation. If we are, I don't know where the money is. There are many areas with high crime, and then there are small towns with quaint ways of living. It is possible to live in a beautiful country setting and work in a big teaching hospital. There's a complete dichotomy about CT that you can't tell by looking on a map and seeing a little state, sitting next to NY. I've been a nurse in my own little niche for so long that I can't talk about the pay.

The summers can be nice, but sometimes too humid, generally 90 degrees during August, and the winters generally have snow, high's in the teens-20's. This past winter has been very unusual with little snow, and high temps in the 40's-50's. The first measurable snowfall was Feb 14th. It seems as though we are getting more winter weather now.

Wow way to generalize the entire state by 3 cities out of many. We have a few towns ranked in the top 100 towns to live in in the country. Many towns have very low crime and a nice New England feel. And it is close to the best city in the world, new york city!

As I said, I don't mean to offend. Unfortunately, this is my perspective and I am entitled to it. These are the largest cities in the state and I'm sorry if you are unaware of the crime rate. I live in Hartford and it is a sad, sad place. Please fill me in on the towns that are in the top 100, I am dying to know. Also, I don't share your sentiment for NYC being the best city in the world. I kind of favor San Francisco, now that is a CITY.

Talking about Crime. San Fransico has about 7,000,000 less residents than New York and has a HIGHER crime rate. (Not to get off on a tangent ;-) )

Last time I checked Georgia was not immune to crime, guns and drugs! As a matter of fact isn't Atlanta one of THE worst places to live in GA? And of course in the largest cities of ANY State the crime and guns is high..since they have a lot more people in it..We are fully aware of violence, guns, drugs, crimes in our bigger cities but you bashed the entire state because of 3 cities?? Wow..But we are good enough for you to move here and get your degree..

And to answer your question, Connecticut has 2 spots in the 100 Best Places to Live 2006 according to Money Magazine..they would be Fairfield comeing in #9 and Stamford #46

and not a single city/town from Georgia made the list. (you mentioned you lived in Atlanta)

Here's a little bit of info on our state that you say is loaded w/crime and some one your State that you seem to think is sooo much better

It's not that we are unfriendly, normally, but your above quote kind of put a nasty taste in my mouth. You state CT is loaded with crime (but your mentioned state is in the 13th for highest crime rates where as ours is 36th). Its "visually depressing" (maybe you should venture outside, or out of Hartford, although Hartford has some very pretty places..Connecticut is one of the most beautiful places. Get out of the city and you'll see that. Rolling hills, valleys, mountains, beautiful seaport towns, scenery, folliage, historic places, arts, entertainment..). As for the temp, I guess being from Atlanta, yes it might seem cold to you until June. But take if from someone born and raised in CT, it normally is warmer than it was last June. We had a weird Spring/Summer last year.

Please don't lump the entire state of Connecticut into such a bad generalization. We have our good cities and towns, just like any other State, and we have our bad..like any other State. And just because certain parts of certain cities are "bad" doesn't mean the entire city is. Again, Bridgeport has some gorgeous areas, as does Hartford and New Haven.

it depends where in ct you'll stay. ct is one of the richest state in us, and also one of the smallest. the cost of living is also expensive, but if you're a nurse you'll survive. there's a lot of job oppurtunities for nurses, be it with hospital, nursing home or home care. salary is also competitive. hospital pays more than nursing homes. a lot of nurses here do second-jobs, since sched here is flexible. apartments are expensive. cost of houses are expensive, especially fairfield county ( area close to new york). a lot of people working in manhattan lived in ct. with all places there are good and nice neighborhood.

i am rn here in the philippines...i just would like to ask, how is it living in ct? (the weather, the people, rn salary(nursing home), standard of living, apartments, neighborhood and etc..) i applied in one of our local agency and they said , we will be working in nursing homes (athena, apple healthcare or spectrum)..tnx a lot :blushkiss

all those areas that you mentioned are really bad...bad neighborhood. don't generalize it. ct is a very nice state. considered one of the best state to live. the city where i live is nice, and affluent. try fairfield county...greenwich, stamford, darien, new canaan...ring a bell!
