Littmann Cardiology III Stethoscope

Published

I am about to purchase the all black Littmann Cardiology III stethoscope. However, it only comes in 27'' not 22''. I was just wondering what is everyone's preference? I will begin my nursing program in October. Thanks everyone!

Re: not a physician

I pretty much completely agree with that, except that after 10 years in construction my hearing has taken just enough of a hit that I'm grateful for the better quality of the spendier scope, and with a price almost double, you have to really want it.

I ordered my chocolate Cardiology 3 and I cant wait till it comes! 27 inches!!!:yeah:

thanks everyone for your comments. I think i'm going to go with the Cardiology III 27''. My goal is to eventually become a nurse practitioner so it will come in handy.

Thanks!

You will find it very helpful for advanced practice. I have a cardio III and I love it. It is very helpful when you are a student because the sound it so good.

That said, I first invested in a Littman Light. For a nursing assessment it is perfect. You can hear lungs sounds well enough, get a decent assessment of the heart, and get a BP if you need a manual. Light, cheap, unpretentious. Nobody will steal it. If you do get he cardio, watch it like a hawk. Otherwise a surly resident will divest you of it.

i think 22" is good but 20" is a good stand point and 27" gives u that room space with your patients.

I have a question regarding the Cardiology III. I guess it pertains to any but this is what I had purchased. I just entered nursing school and wanted to get a good stethoscope. However, when I use it I am getting so much noise from the tube rubbing against something to simple touching of the back of the diaphragm that it's really hard to hear actual beats. I know this may seem like a really stupid question but is that normal? Is the fact that it's a Cardiology III making everything so much more amplified? I'm having difficulty counting beats because every little conductive noise is covering it up. Thanks everyone!

well is this your first scope usage? because when you are new to hearing heartbeats and you start with a cardio III it could be hard to to tell the difference, myself I havent used a scope yet but I heard starting with such an advance scope being ur first scope could be hard to tell with the different type of beats.

Thanks for the response Chris. It's not even so much the kinds of beats but the overall noise level is very high. If you ever sat though any type of lecture where the speaker used a lavaliere microphone you probably know that noise when they are repositioning it while it's on. That's the only way I can think to explain it at the moment. I was under the impression that buying a double-tubing stethoscope would cut that down but maybe I was mistaken.

well buying a double tubing would enhance the sound quality, but I have seen a thread called "Are cardiology Stethoscopes harder to uses?" check that out maybe it should answer your question.

Good Luck

I have the 22 and cannot stand it, I am getting the 27 soon. I end up putting my chest too close to patients faces and it gets uncomfortable around my neck. It just sits funny.
