Hi everyone, I would really appreciate your inputs. First of all, I am a recent graduate RN (was RPN for 1.5 years) and am currently helping with the covid pts. and providing swabbing services to them.
I have recently been offered a job in OR and I should first mention I don’t like nursing ? I don’t know why I chose this field but had to because I had no other choice and was afraid to never find a job in other fields because I have another bachelors and could not find a job in that.
I am generally an introvert and shy person who doesn’t like social situations and avoid them as I get anxious. So, since providing covid services won’t last forever, considering my personality and me not liking nursing, do you think its wise for me to accept the OR position or turn it down? or do you think I better find another line of work altogether?

If you don't like nursing, I would honestly find another career. Nursing is very hard work, it takes a lot out of you, and if you don't enjoy it...I think you'd be miserable. Put yourself first.

I think OR could be okay sense you don’t have a lot of patient interaction, but you do have to have a lot of interaction with the surgery team. Would you maybe want to look into research?? Just a thought. Best of luck ?

I went on a whim to a Laser Hair Removal RN job interview; that's all they do. Use a laser to remove hair from all body parts. It's called Milan Laser Institute. The pay is not great, but it seemed like a low-stress job/ not dealing with life/death/family drama all the time. I did not accept that job, but you might look into that company to see if they have any openings in your city/State. I bet you could find a way to use your RN in an unconventional way and find your groove. Best Wishes to you going forward!
By the way, I'm also an introvert. I tried out the OR for about a year and it was NOT for me..but sometimes, you just need to take a leap of faith and try something out. Be Brave;)). It is mostly serious business down in the OR and surgeons will yell and throw around instruments sometimes. You have to have Thick Skin to work down there, but some RN's Love it and couldn't see themselves working anywhere else. That's the beauty of our profession; there are so many different ways you can go with a Nursing career.

I worked as a nurse apprentice in surgery last Summer and HATED it. But the reason I hated it was because I had no patient interaction. It was so cold (literally and figuratively) and so procedural and boring. All I did was help position patients after they were under anesthesia, count sponges, get supplies, and set up and break down rooms. So maybe this is an area of nursing you would thrive in??? Nursing has something for everyone, it just wasn't for me!
