Light of hope for old new grads

Published

So this thread is mainly directed toward old,new grads who has been out of work for one year and still cant find job,yes we are still marketable..I have a nursing license in two states (my home state and a neighbouring state) and I kept looking for a job at both but more at the neighbouring state since it is nearly impossible to get a job as a new grad in my homestate (unless you have like one or 2 years of experience under your belt.Well I applied to a 2 year residency program with a sign on bonus and landed a interview and I'm stil waiting for a peer interview, this process takes a long time,I also got an invitation for an interview at a smaller community hospital which I missed (they left a voice mail on my cell-phone but I somehow I missed it and I read it too late and they hired someone else) Also recently I got an interview invitation a for weekend med-surg position nights, full time overnight weekends (3'12) Sounds like a not so bad gig that would provide me with an extensive experience (they have both adults and peds on this med-surg floor) I really would like to get into the 2 year residency program but at this point I just dont know if they going to give an offer (they had a lot of applicants) Well I guess my point is that yes old new grads we are still marketable,I'm the living proof.Dont loose your hope just keep searching, trust me I was freaking out thinking that I would never get a chance to interview after such a long gap on my resume, but I quess I was wrong so stay positive, interviews will happen for you.

Could this be a sign that the log jam is starting to break?

I just got my first interview today, for a sub acute facility. My fingers are crossed that things are easing up a bit.

Thank you for sharing. Best of luck to you. Please keep us posted.

Had my first interview and job offer wednesday after a year of kinda looking(applied for about 40 jobs) and working on my BSN too.

I dont thinks but who knows.I personally will believe it when I see my home state hiring old new grads or brand new grads.I know several people who finished nursing school seven years ago and they were able to find 2 weeks after graduation (and no they werent outsanding students with 4.0 gpa, extra certifications or other stuff)...Now the market is so terrible and I am so tired of explaining to people that no nothing is wrong with my resume or that I'm picky blaala,no one believes that the the market is mainly responsible for this lack of jobs for new grads, seriously sight..
