I am a ADON of a personal care home. We are getting a resident that wears a life vest defibrillator. She will be discharged from her SNF. Has anyone ever worked with a life vest? We do not have nurses 24/7 but have aides that have CPR training but are not nurses. I am on call this weekend and I am very nervous about this resident. Any suggestions?

LTCRN4LIFE is correct, it's an awesome device. People are discharged home with them and advised to live out their normal ADLs. It is a scary thing because you don't know about it but if you contact ZOLL, they should be able to help you.
And I don't see why the patient should necessarily be a DNR. It's not really any different from a patient with an AICD being a full code.

Very cool device. I have some in my dialysis unit pts. Works great for us as sudden cardiac death is a reality in dialysis. And no they can certainly be a full code.

If someone is wearing a Life Vest they shouldn't be a DNR, at least a full DNR anyway, they would need to be ok with getting shocks.
