Life as a New Grad Sucks

Published

Dear hospitals that won't hire new grads, dear nurses that refuse to retire, dear saturated new grad market, dear nursing schools that keep accepting too many students for the money and not for the need, dear people that still think there is a nursing shortage,

You're making my life miserable.

Sincerely,

A very bitter, worn out, new grad.

So glad I busted my behind to get a 3.7gpa in nursing school, work as a nurse aide for two years, have two other degrees, a preceptorship, and volunteer all for not.

P.S. hospitals: one day you're going to want me and don't think I won't forget who didn't treat me well or wouldn't hire me when it really mattered.

Felt good to get that off my chest!

Just curious, did you find a job by now???

They hire new grads in Reno, NV. Last spring one hospital hired ~95 new grads at one time, and the other hospitals in town hired some as well. This winter that same hospital is hiring ~50 more...They all give priority to students graduating from local schools, but they if they can't fill their spots with locals, they'll hire from out of state. It wouldn't hurt to send an application!

Lady Bug-where at St. Mary's because right now I haven't been able to find any opennings in Reno...

Have you tried Renown Regional? They do all of the mass hirings and they're in the middle of hiring new grads right now...

I just read a Renown nurse's allnurses article on Renown Health and boy did it scare me. I think I will pass. But thanks for the tip anyways...

Thank you for saying everything i have been thinking!!

i am one of the very frustrated new grads, in the NYC area there are no hospitals, LTC, nothing noone who will hire a new grad, I made major sacrifices for this, quit a decent job because it interfered with school, worked nights as a waitress, graduated in June and nothing, went to every hospital, nursing home, everywhere, and nothing, am at wits end, went back to school in sept for BSN but really am ready to give up, and just try to go back to legal secretary, I can hang my license on the wall cause it is useless, 2 people from my class are working, both worked in nursing homes during school, the class before me 3 people, one moved 500 miles away in upstate NY, the class from last June, 3 people, what a joke,

One of my classmates just got hired in Albany, the first one in our class (that I know of) to get a nursing job. Getting the BSN is a good idea while you wait... being a new grad is bad enough, but being an ADN is even worse.
