Licensure requirements for CA for foreign grad

World Immigration

Published

I just graduated from a nursing school in the phils. I wasn't able to take the local board bec. my immigrant visa was about to expire.I was lucky that i was able to finish my course there. My question is do you really have to be a local board passer so you will be eligible to take the CA NCLEX here?I mean even as an immigrant? And for all those foreign grads how long did it take for your application for licensure to be processed?:uhoh3: just wondering....

For what I have understand, for example, I would apply first to Ca Board then pay the said amount.

After that if i received already the ATT, I will pay for NCLEX registration

Correct me if I'm wrong

Read the threads on here as they advice not to go CA route as you will have a long wait for your ATT and they will not give you a hard license until you have a SSN

Don't pay pearsonvue yet for your NCLEX wait until you recieve your ATT

1. a) Apply for the CA BRN w/c includes your application form, payment (bankdraft), pics

b) Let your school send the TORs, etc... to CA RBN

2. Wait for 4-6 mos. (up to 8 mos.) to receive the eligibility letter or e-mail to you that you are eligible

3. Register to Pearson-vue and pay $200 and then you will receive your ATT. Pay another $150 to sched in an International testing site.

4. Wait for another 1-3 mos to be able to find a suitable slot for any of the International testing sites.

5. Take the NCLEX and wait for another 3-4 weeks for the results that you passed - No Hard license would be given because of lacking U.S. SSN

* But as what Anna just said and what Suzanne keeps saying, it is not advisable because of the long wait. If we calculate everything, it will be min. of 6 mos. and may be up to 12 mos. before you receive the results of your exam and lets not forget that only less than 50 % of foreign RNs pass the NCLEX the 1st time around.

to suzanne, lawrence and to everyone here. i'm searching for that info regarding the need to re-apply to CA BRN if applicant (after passing nclex) fails to submit SSN to the BRN in 3 years (or is it 2?). I can't find such info from the website of the BRN. does it include retaking the nclex, or what does it include? I'm hoping to find a thread or a link to give me more info on this. Is it stated in the official letter (or is it email) from BRN to the applicant who passes nclex but has no ssn?

thank you.

try also new mexico, i've heard its almost the same as vermont. the requirements are easy and they will give you the eligibility in just 3 months...

hi!

is that true? but they said it will take a while for

the endorsement process

hello colleagues..if ur planning to take the nclex, my advise is that never apply the cali nclex. besides the long processing time, the exam is really tough. before, i was planning to take it, but some of the nurses i've met told me to apply vermont's, which i did. good thing i listened, coz it took me only about 2 months to receive my eligibility (may be lesser if they didn't ask for another requirements from my college). saves a lot of time...and one more thing, i was able to know that i passed after 2 days because vermont does have quick result service while cali doesn't (u need to wait a month for your result..what an agony!). u might as well try new mexico, ohio, minnesota, etc. and just apply for reciprocity/endorsement in california board of nursing. i had mine reciprocated in just a few months. good luck!

hi!

wow! thats fast! i learned that also from here that

new mexico, vermont are the fastest.. but i was told

also that its goin to take a while for them for the

endorsement process.. bnecause i prefer ny or nj

although cvs / ces i a must + its going to take a

while though.. thanks a lot!

if you prefer nj or ny then the best way is to apply directly to them. no going around the cvs or the ces. you will have to apply for them no matter what. just my honest opinion. ;)

can somebody tell me how can i request the application packet in cali? i really don't have any idea... please help me... anybody...

and how will I do the finger scanned thing? the hard copy one??? or for other filipino nurses out there who can help me, text me at ... this is how desperate i am to find answers...

Sorry, but you can't post your cel phone numbers and e-mail addresses here for your own protection.

there are a lot of threads and posts pertaining to your question here. please take the time to read one of them. i also recommend reading suzanne's primer.

welcome to allnurses.com :balloons:

have you read this whole thread yet ? most of your q's are already answered here.

just making sure you know the disadvantages of going thru ca brn directly.

it will be anywhere from 6-12 months before you can receive your results.

most are going thru new mexico or vermont (about 2-3 mos processing time) route 1st then endorse to ca.

hi guys,i've read your forum and i was very much enlightened. i have a question though. i'm graduating this december and i'm kinda expecting a baby by feb. and i wanna go to california asap so i could give birth. i won't be able to take the local board or ielts (and stuff like that) anymore. do you guys think they'll let me take the nclex without those? i badly need this. its for my baby. thanks
