Licensure requirements for CA for foreign grad

World Immigration

Published

I just graduated from a nursing school in the phils. I wasn't able to take the local board bec. my immigrant visa was about to expire.I was lucky that i was able to finish my course there. My question is do you really have to be a local board passer so you will be eligible to take the CA NCLEX here?I mean even as an immigrant? And for all those foreign grads how long did it take for your application for licensure to be processed?:uhoh3: just wondering....

hi

any updates from those who passed application in california bon, last dec 2007? have you received the letter of eligibility? is local license a requirement now?

to jiffy: As what I heard from a friend of mine who applied last September, the CA-BON asked a copy of her license. SO, I guess you need that now in applying. and, Up to now, she hasn't received her eligibility. Hope that info can help you. God bless!

Again, if there is a five year plus wait for a chance at a visa for the US, and most other countries require a local license to be able to work there, why would someone not wish to write it in the first place?

Makes no sense if you are not going to be able to get any experirence as an RN in the next five years. You will be competing amongst many other nurses for the few coveted visas that are available per year and I use that word since the number that want the green card far exceeds the number that are availalbe.

If you look at it from the other side, and you were the person doing the interview at US Embassy, would you wish to grant a visa to the person that has obtained adequate work experience over the past few years, or one that has never worked a day after graduating as an RN?

Suzanne is right. Better take the exam for local license so that you can work while waiting for the retrogression to end. Experience is I think, one of the factors to consider when getting an immigrant visa.

Hi everyone.

I am permanent resident of US but have finished my nursing course in the Philippines. Do I still required to have the local license though I wouldn't practice in the Philippines? I have emailed the California Boards about this query but no answer as of this time. Do you think I can go straight with my application now? Hope somebody can give me piece of advice. Thank you.

You can go ahead with your application for licensure to the BRN. We have not seen any written changes on their website as of yet. If they do make the change, then it will be up to when they put it into effect. Since you are still a citizen of the Philippines, what ever they put into place would apply to you since you can write the exam.

Only those that are exempt from being able to write the exam in the first place would be excused from anything.

Sorry but I am not trying to bring anyone down, just save some money and time.

hahaha i was going about some posts here and i really find it funny when people ask things over and over again well in fact those things have been answered all over and over again too... i guess its just their stress...

but i would like to thank the moderators and other members here who remain steadfast and very patient. tnx

i still believe its just the stress :D

Thanks for your reply, ive read on your threads discussions related to my problem. You've been a great help for us. Thanks so much and more power to all...

Being a derivative of a green card holder normally gives you the ability to work legally, unlike working visas. I'm not sure what happened in your case.

hi

finally, iv heard from a friend that he received a letter from cali brn, he applied dec.2007,unfortunately,the board is asking for his license in the country where he was educated, how come he sent a letter explaining why he is not licensed, any advise?

thanks

to Jiiffy, the Cali bon just emailed me 3 weeks ago and they were asking for my License. And since I emailed my application last November 2007 and I included in my application a letter why I don't have a local license yet. I think that their new policy now is that they require you to pass our LOCAL board exam because they really insisted that I need to pass a copy or proof of passing the exam. So what I did since I don't have a license yet. I photocopied my RECEIPT (the green claim stub) the one that you will give to the prc so that you can claim your license. I'm a December 2007 passer.
