Licensure by endorsement - timing question

Hi everyone:

[My apologies in advance for probably putting this under the wrong thread - I think the gist of it could apply to any state though.]

I currently work in Missouri and plan to move to Oregon by/before May 1st. If I find a job before May 1, I will move sooner. If not, I plan to continue working in Missouri through the end of April.

I've checked out Oregon's State Board of Nursing website for the licensure by endorsement steps (Oregon State Board of Nursing RN/LPN Licensure Information) and they seem pretty straightforward. I went through a similar process to get my MO license (I took boards in ME) although I was endorsed from one compact state (ME) to another (MO).

Oregon is not a compact state. Nor will they allow you to practice - or even begin an orientation - before having your fully transferred/endorsed/whatever-you-want-to-call-it license in hand. That sort of puts me in a bind with potential job prospects. Yet on the flip side, I can't fully transfer my license while I'm still working in MO.

Is it possible to begin the endorsement process and have a hold date on it?

Any suggestions or words of advice from folks who've been down this road before? I am guessing I'll probably just have to hold out until I have an actual job offer in hand or have resigned from my MO job.

Thanks in advance! :nurse:

You can still get the Oregon license while still in Missouri and holding a Missouri license. You are allowed to have more than one state license at a time. Just get the oregon license now and be done with it.

I held dual licenses for a brief period as well.....one by endorsement, one my original license.

In states wiithout licensure compacts, one can have multiple licenses for years.

Living in southeast PA doing homecare infusion nursing, I saw patients in 3 states within same day so held PA, NJ and DE licenses at one time... 20 yrs later just maintain PA and NJ license since homecare referrals are from mostly those states. Apply now for your Oregan license so will not be an issues during hiring process, especailly since state requires validation from nursing program, finderprinting and license verification-- can take 1-3 months to obtain and review documents by BON staff.

I have my Oregon and Washinton licenses, WA is by endorsement. I have PRN jobs in both states.

So you can apply for that OR licenses, before moving

Thanks everyone for responding! I am so relieved to hear that it won't be an issue to have both simultaneously. I guess I was tripped up on it since after I got my MO license the ME SBON said my license was moved to their "inactive" list - that dual compact state issue, I'm guessing.

I went ahead and paid my fees to OR - off to get fingerprinted later today. :)

Thanks again!
