Licensure by endorsement in Cali

Not sure if my last comment posted-- but I am a traveler and Cali is notoriously difficult to become licensed in. Anywhere from a few weeks to 9 months. The BON runs very behind there. I would have a back up plan!! Good luck!

If you have a California address, it helps to get in touch with your state senator and state assemblymember. Tell them you're a constituent having problems with a state agency. They'll get in touch with "their contacts" at the Department of Consumer Affairs (oversees the BRN) and at the BRN to get things moving on your application. I got my license by endorsement within a week after contacting my local politicians (11 weeks total processing time).

Also my question is do I wait the 8-10 weeks stated on the website for temp license to contact??? Or the 12-16 for permanent? I am a new grad and find it outrageous to take this long to endorse!!!

I graduated in AZ and had a license number next day after testing!

Right now I am stuck as a CNA because my hospital won't orient me as an RN til the breeze website has an RN license number.

It's frustrating.

I understand your frustration, unfortunately CA is the slowest at these types of things. Even graduates who went to school in CA have to wait 10-12 weeks just to receive their ATT to then take NCLEX. Therefore, until you can get a hold of someone, its a waiting game. I would suggest to anyone else reading this forum, if you plan to work in CA after graduation or you left CA for nursing school but plan to return, schedule your NCLEX in CA to avoid the delay in getting a CA license

I completely understand your situation. I am a May 2016 Grad. I grew up in CA but I went to an out-of-state school for nursing. I came back to take the NCLEX out here but I didn't get my ATT until Mid- August. It was crazy waiting for just my ATT for the NCLEX to go through. I would call almost everyday and email them. But I got no response too. May be try faxing them a letter. It is going to be hard waiting. But with California you have to be patient. It is going to be difficult, trust me, I know. I am still waiting for my test results and I took it Oct 4th. And according to their "processing times" I wont hear anything for about 2 weeks about my results.

You do not have to wait 8-16 weeks to contact your local politicians. I would say wait 4-6 weeks (this seems like a reasonable amount of time since it's about how long endorsement takes in other states if my friend's experience with AZ is representative), check in with the BRN on your status, and if they're still saying it might realistically be 3 more months, then contact your local politicians to express your concern that a state agency is causing one of their constituents to not be able to work in the state to fill the nursing shortage and pay local and state taxes.

Hi, I plan to return to California after finishing school. So from what I'm reading, its best to get licensed by examination in California and not get licensed in another state then to get endorsed? I will be finishing in Dec so I hope to get my license as soon as possible
