Licensed Esthetician wanting to become an RN...Pls HELP!!!

Published

Hi! I'm a newly license esthetician who would like to become an RN. I also have a Business Degree so there are about 6 pre reqs that I will have to take before getting into the nursing program. Since I already have a BA, financial aid is out of the question. Are there any grants or other types of financial assistance that will keep me from having to take out another student loan? even if I can lessen the amount I have to take out would be great! ANY tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :-)

Maybe a dermatology office? I would find offices and drop your resume...I found that when you work off of CraigsList, you pretty much have no chance because hundreds are applying for that job - some that aren't even qualified! They just want to work. Economy sucks right now :(

BTW...I do know that if you become a nurse and take a job in an underserved area, there are 'loan forgiveness' opportunities in some states. Basically, you work as a nurse for a few years in these areas and they will pay your loans for you. Just a thought...

When I worked as an esthetician, the issue was that no one wanted to hire you without a clientele. How am I supposed to get 'experience' when I can't get a job? I also found that when I was working (making no money, not even kidding), I'd have a booked schedule one day and because it ended up being nice outside, people just blew off the appointment or canceled last minute. And don't even get me started on working in a salon/spa :)

I was one of the many who got laid off, so I was personally affected by the economy, but they say its slowly getting better.:yeah:I'm currently working on my resume and once it's done, dropping my resume off at different offices is definitely on my agenda. I know several estheticians who had a hard time finding a job that required a lot more experience in treatments that were not covered while they were in school. Those who went to work immediately after completing the program had connections. The instructors sell this field to you like it's the best thing since sliced bread.:rotfl:

The "loan forgivenss" doesn't so bad, definitley something to keep in mind. Do you plan on going into an area of nursing that will allow you to utilize your esthetician license?

Specializes in Med/Surg, Ortho, ASC.

I'm a licensed esthetician as well .... I'm in Georgia and I finished school last August and finally found a job! But I know I want to go back to school for nursing to get more into medical esthetics.

If anybody out there is a medical esthetican, did you find a job in skin care right after you finished? or did you work in a general practice first?

did you take any additional training for learning fillers or were you taught at your job??

what is your schedule like?

Quite a few states have state scholarship/grant/loan programs to help their residents go into nursing -- you might want to look into that in your state. My state has three separate scholarship programs that provide funds to state residents for nursing education. I was able to get $$$ from my state to attend (nursing) graduate school that I was able to "work off" by working in the state (not even for the state, but simply in the state, for any employer I wanted) after I graduated (which I intended to do anyway) instead of paying back, which was a sweet deal (if I had not returned and worked in the state, I would have had to pay the money back as a regular loan).
