Hi! I'm a newly license esthetician who would like to become an RN. I also have a Business Degree so there are about 6 pre reqs that I will have to take before getting into the nursing program. Since I already have a BA, financial aid is out of the question. Are there any grants or other types of financial assistance that will keep me from having to take out another student loan? even if I can lessen the amount I have to take out would be great! ANY tips or suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thanks! :-)

They should give you Stafford loans...mostly unsubsidized. Fill out a FAFSA and see what they will give you. I am working on my RN, which is my second Bachelor's, and I received student loans. They just don't give you as much :)
Thanks! I've already filled out a FAFSA, just waiting to hear back. I was hoping to get a grant or some other form of free money so I wouldnt have to owe so much when I'm finished with school. :-) Figured it wouldn't hurt to ask! How much long do you have left for school and is it everything that you expected?
I have one year left - I am in an ABSN program. So far, so good - there are a few issues I have with the school itself (Loyola University, Chicago), but otherwise all is well. We start clinicals this summer, so we'll see how that goes!
I have an esthetics license as well - that was definitely not what I thought it would be. So hard to make money and to even get a job for that matter!
oh, your an esthetician as well! Yes, i know exactly what you mean, i havent started looking for a job yet, but from the job postings i've seen it doesnt seem that easy especially since i have no desire to work in a spa. i would love to work in a plastic surgeons or dermatologist office. any website suggestions? Do you know any RN Estheticians who are already working in the field? Would love to know if this career choice will be a wise one.
Good luck on your last yr of school!

When they tell you your bill for the semester, write them a check. End of story.
If you want to do it bad enough, you'll get a job while you're going to school.

It's that easy, huh?
And actually I shouldn't be so snarky. I paid for my education upfront because I was able to, but I realize I'm in the minority. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to do that.

I went to onestop,or rather business excellence to look for jobs, I saw this scholarship for nursing as one of the targetted profession that they will finance.Would you try checking on this?
I was also interested in your field as esthetician,How would I go over this? Is job wise easy for me to land?I will be getting my RN exam this end of month, hoping that I will pass, then looking for other additional field that makes me employable.
REALLY??? Hitman, you do not know my SITUATION. If it were that easy for me to do I would have no problem doing it!!!

Thanks for the info, I will be sure to check it out!
In my state the Esthetics program is 600hrs and of course you would want to take additional classes like microderm, oxygen, etc. The more you know the easier it will be to land an interview without having connections. My interest is medical cosmetics, so I'm hoping that becoming an RN will make me more desireable. I honestly don't see why it wouldn't, but I could be wrong. I'm still doing my research, but so far it doesn't seem like such a bad choice. I know that being just an esthetician will be a huge pay cut for me, so either I continue to follow through with what I've always wanted to do or go back to finance. Hopefully someone with helpful information can shed light on this subject.
Good luck!
Maybe a dermatology office? I would find offices and drop your resume...I found that when you work off of CraigsList, you pretty much have no chance because hundreds are applying for that job - some that aren't even qualified! They just want to work. Economy sucks right now
BTW...I do know that if you become a nurse and take a job in an underserved area, there are 'loan forgiveness' opportunities in some states. Basically, you work as a nurse for a few years in these areas and they will pay your loans for you. Just a thought...
When I worked as an esthetician, the issue was that no one wanted to hire you without a clientele. How am I supposed to get 'experience' when I can't get a job? I also found that when I was working (making no money, not even kidding), I'd have a booked schedule one day and because it ended up being nice outside, people just blew off the appointment or canceled last minute. And don't even get me started on working in a salon/spa :)
