Hello fellow nurses,
I have a situation that I need help with. Ok, now I've lived in Minnesota for over 15 yrs, been a nurse for over 10. I've a family and all here, but then I need to relocate. Over time I've accumulated 4 DWIs & that's all I have. The MN BON suspended my license for a year, they just gave it back to me, but on probation for 36m (HPSP) here. Now I need to move from my environment (reasons witheld) start my life a new. Colorado Boulder is my destination or even any other Colorado place. Now how do I go about this? I'm on county probation as well the which I don't have a problem with, I'm sober thru AA and will continue to do so. (Gosh that was hash, putting myself out there like that)

Don't even want to get into "only 4 Duis". Only the Colorado BON can answer your question.

I would start the application process for a CO license now, because it's not likely to happen quickly and, if denied, you'll need to rethink your plans to relocate. Start by reviewing the CO license application and learn what you will have to disclose (likely all DUIs, the suspended license, and the probation) and what additional paperwork you'll need to submit along with the application. A phone call to the CO BON might get you more information, but they will probably be unable to directly answer the question "will I get a license" until they have received your application in full and performed their background checks.
Good luck, and congratulations on remaining sober. It is not an easy thing.
Thanks, I have the MN license as of now, just don't know to do as far as Colorado is concerned.
Thanks for your input, but you don't come out as someone very helpful
How much "help" can you get here? This is 100% up to the Colorado BON. They can and will handle your licensure any way they see fit. No one has a crystal ball that can tell you what their decision will be.
It's more of what someone else has had to do. I do know that ultimately it'll remains to be the CO BON's decision. If u able to, your experience with the same issue is more than welcome.

I think the point Been There Done That was making was that you aren't likely to find someone else on this message board with exactly the same situation, which is being a nurse for 15 years in MN with 4 DUIs and a license on probation who is looking to move to Colorado.
Even if someone did have exactly the same situation the BON can make a different decision in your case than in the other guy's case. So it doesn't really matter what anyone had happen to them with the BON. They can and will make their decision based on you and your application, I guess all I can say is good luck and hopefully you won't give the BON any more reasons to restrict or revoke your license permanently.
