License Suspension

Published

So my license is going to be suspended for 12 months by the board for diversion.  I self reported to my state’s alternative-to-discipline program but I’m getting disciplined anyway.  I can apply to have it reinstated at 12 months and the requirements are basically the same as my monitoring program.

I feel like I’ll never get another nursing job after all of this.  I’ve been out of work for four months and have not even been able to find work anywhere yet (applying anywhere and everywhere including grocery stores/gas stations/etc.  it’s so hard not getting really depressed over this.

I’ve been under monitoring since 9/14 so not long.  I’m still in outpatient treatment once a week.  I just really want to work.  I can’t seem to forgive myself for this horrible mistake I’ve made.

Nope not being monitored.  Once my license was officially suspended they sent me a letter kicking me out.  I had signed a four year contract, so I am really hoping they also give me credit for a year (but I doubt it).

I plan to rehire my lawyer when I go up for reinstatement as he helped me tremendously fight the board of nursing when they wanted to immediately suspended my license he prevented that from happening but when I lost my job I had to drop monitoring little did I know going back in would give me more time or what others here say sentence ?. The BON will most likely recommend you go under monitoring and from then your license goes to probation. I would consider a lawyer if you are able.

Yes I am sure I will go under monitoring and probation.  I'm not going to hire a lawyer, which I know many disagree with.  Maybe I should have originally, but I am truly an addict and made my bed so now I will lie in it!  I truly wish you all the best ❤️

I’m stuck in a similar situation. I recently left monitoring while still in the 90 day evaluation phase.. long story.. but yes, how do you prove sobriety if that’s not your issue?!

As apart of monitoring I do random drug screens, this proves sobriety. These monitoring programs are a one size fit all so no matter the issue everyone gets drug tested.

Yes, this I know. Do you have to do anything else such as attend AA, get a sponsor, etc?

Nope I don’t have to do those things. Just attend my quarterly doctors appointment and see a therapist. Mines was not drug or alcohol related.

But yet you’re still subjected to random drug tests through Affinity?

So you are not being monitored now? Lucky for me I can be monitored while having my license suspended. Just hope all this time is counted towards my sentence of five years…started monitoring fall of 2020.

It won’t be. More than likely they’ll rework a new contract with a re-extended time frame (new start and end date) which will included the additional year you were suspended. It’s not the boards job to look out for nurses, but rather, their primary interest are to protect the public (aka their image) and they’ll have no qualms about burying a nurse struggling with mental health issues in order to do so.
They have absolute authority to do as they see fit but won’t risk a public litigation (which is expensive for both parties) just to save face. You see, the board is non profit but many of their members are making 6 figures. If the collective of all nurses came together and formed a union then none of this BS would be happening.

I agree ?.. it’s our own fault for letting this go on. I refuse to be a part of their “game.”
