License Suspension

Published

So my license is going to be suspended for 12 months by the board for diversion.  I self reported to my state’s alternative-to-discipline program but I’m getting disciplined anyway.  I can apply to have it reinstated at 12 months and the requirements are basically the same as my monitoring program.

I feel like I’ll never get another nursing job after all of this.  I’ve been out of work for four months and have not even been able to find work anywhere yet (applying anywhere and everywhere including grocery stores/gas stations/etc.  it’s so hard not getting really depressed over this.

I’ve been under monitoring since 9/14 so not long.  I’m still in outpatient treatment once a week.  I just really want to work.  I can’t seem to forgive myself for this horrible mistake I’ve made.

I totally hear you! I have a similar situation. And funny you said that, a good friend of mine was in monitoring and her little boy passed away. She relapsed, as they suspended her too. That was many years ago and she also never went back to this profession.  Heartless POS is the least I can say! Good luck to you! I have kids too, let us know what field Of work you entered! Id be interested to know:)

This is was an article from 60 minutes basically testifying to what I said yesterday about nurses being burnt out. Yet they let great nurses like ourselves go, or they place us into life altering contracts that literally have us giving up our rights…

I just hate it, maybe if I wasn’t treated so badly by the board and at least consider making an attempt. But in order for me to even go back I’d have $4,000 to the stenographer and the “hearing officer”. Who by the way works for the board as does his wife. Both making 90+ a year. It’s all online. And it’s all a shame.

Truly good luck to you all and don’t do anything to fudge up the chance you have if you’re still in the program.

No, I’m already out. Put in 21 good years. I refuse to be part of the problem. Thanks ?

What do you mean “part of the problem”?

I am currently in the petition process for having my license reinstated.  I am submitting all of my paperwork this week.  I'm sure it could take months to hear back.  I am currently very happy in my current job (except for the pay) so I am just taking life one day at a time.

Well good to hear. Yes you can expect the board to drag their heels on your case. The board meets once a month where they discuss cases like yours behind closed doors. Good luck

Hopefully they will move swiftly and offer you a hearing as they do in my state. I had to wait two years of being monitored before I can get reinstatement so this fall I will apply.

Blackpear

why did you have to wait two years??

According to my board order if I drop out of monitoring my license gets suspended (which I did and it happened quickly). I’m back in monitoring now but have to wait two years for reinstatement according to my board orders. You have to prove two years of continuous sobriety LOL and my case is all mental health .

I am currently working with children with autism in a facility.

Blackpear my situation was the opposite- I self-reported (my employer also reported), signed a four year contract for monitoring, only for the BON to suspend my license anyway and I got kicked out of monitoring (they only allow you to enroll if your license is active).  It's so *** backwards!  So I had NO drug screens for 12 months while my license was suspended, no accountability at all except for my contract with the board which I knew I had to follow in order to get my license back.  Luckily I have managed to stay sober so they can hair test me for all I care.  Hopefully it won't take another year for them to respond to my petition.

So you are not being monitored now? Lucky for me I can be monitored while having my license suspended. Just hope all this time is counted towards my sentence of five years…started monitoring fall of 2020.
