Hello Good day to everyone Im Ricky, from the Philippines. I would ask if theirs a renewal in both Cgfns and Nclex License because i passed last 2007 and i read in my license that it will expires this march 31, 2009 in the Nclex but in the Cgfns i have no idea .
now im confused. ok lets start from the beginning. In order that the CGFNS certificate to be valid for 5 years it will also require a ENGLISH exams to have its validity and renewal?? if no english exams it will not be renew??another question.. The Nclex exams is a one time exams, if you passed that one you only need to renew your license before the expiration date in order to continue its validity?? or if you dont have the ENGLISH EXAM you cannot renew it??
please see my previous posting - for those rules. In order to get a credentialing certificate from CGFNS, the english speaking portion IS REQUIRED! Once applied for, it must be completed within one year.
for a visa screen certificate from CGFNS - the are additional things that must be done. The credentials screening is not enough for immigration....you MUST HAVE a Visa Screen Certificate - which once obtained has a five year term which must be renewed PRIOR to expiry.
Sorry, but the English exams are not automatically needed for the CES report, only if the state that one is having the report sent to requires it. So not all are going to need to have the English done first. 100% dependent on the requirements of the state and this is per CGFNS.
The poster has already taken the NCLEX exam, this means that their credentials were in order and they were not required to have the English requirement completed before receiving permission to test. If a state requires the English exams, then they would have needed to have been done in the first place before being permitted to do anything else.
The CES report has nothing at all to do with the VSC, they are completely different programs that are handled thru CGFNS. CES is a credentials eval and nothing more that is now being required by the majority of states and for licensure. The VSC is strictly for immigration and that is why it requires the English exams for the Certificate to be issued. CES is only an evaluation and there is no certificate associated with it.
Only two certificate programs are the CP, which is what one gets when they have comleted the CGFNS exam as well as the basic English only and this can be either TOEFL, IELTS, or the TOEIC. The other certificate is the VSC.
But no certificate for the credentials eval.
There is no certificate associated with the CES and this is where you are being mistaken. There is only a report that is issued to the state or the university. Nothing more than that and the nurse receives a copy of the report, and nothing else.
The credentials eval is also based on the requirements of that specific state or program; it may not be issued if the person does not meet the requirements for where they wish to go.
Just wanted to clarify this for you.
The requirements for CGFNS Visa Screen Certificate is as follows....Additionally, once application is made for a Visa screen Certificate, you only have 12 months to complete the order.

See page three of the above document for the English Speaking requirement for Nursing. If you need help with the speaking portion of the test, there should be a local school which provides tutoring in this.
My suggestion is that you begin the application process and submit your credentials for review and then retest for the english proficiency portion. You are close so do some more studying and give it another shot.
Suzzane4 - The CGFNS Qualifying ExamSM is a one-day examination that tests your knowledge and understanding of nursing as it is taught and practiced in the United States today. The CGFNS Qualifying ExamSM uses objective, multiple-choice and alternate item type questions and is designed by testing experts to help you predict your likelihood of passing the U.S. registered nurse licensure examination, which is called the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses or NCLEX-RN® examination.
Each Individual State Board has different requirements for licensure. Most do require an NCLEX pass to qualify. CGFNS will issue a VSC for a pass score on their qualifying test. This has nothing to do with an individual state for licensure. Currently, immigration requires a CGFNS certfication in the form of a Visa Screen Certificate for entry into a healthcare field such as Nursing.
Suzzane4, when I was speaking of the certificate - I was speaking of the Visa Screen, not the credentials screening. Regardless of weither he/she has been offered a position yet or not, the CGFNS should be started and completed so there are no delays to the visa issuance due to lack of preparation.
Additionally, a credentials screening is not completed until the english proficiency is completed, and there is that 12 months window again. As the person in the original window was speaking of the NCLEX - the credentials screening was ruled out in my mind and he was speaking of the visa screen.
The CGFNS exam is only required for a total of four states out of the entire US. Unless one is actually going to be working in one of those four states, there is absolutely no reason to anything further concerning that exam.
CGFNS does not issue a VSC based on the CGFNS exam alone. They require the full set of English exams for that as well. One can use either the CGFNS exam or the NCLEX exam for the VSC. This was started when the NCLEX was only given in the US and the majority of the foreign nurses were then required to write the CGFNS exam in order to get the visa for the US, but this is most definitely not the case any longer. The NCLEX exam can be taken all over the world and usually five to six days per week and results can be avaiable in just a couple of days. CGFNS exam is only given a couple of times per year and then one must wait for their results for another six weeks or so. The CGFNS exam also requires a completely different preparation from that of the NCLEX exam as well.
You are combining three different items into two and think that is what is getting you confused.
And just to clarify for others that are reading here:
If you have gone thru CGFNS for either the CES or the CGFNS exam in the past, then it is going to be faster to receive the VSC since they have already reviewed most of your credentials.
If one has only taken the NCLEX exam, then it is going to be longer as they are going to have to evaluate everything from scratch.
They will not start processing anything until they have the English exams in hand, average wait time is only four months to get the VSC; however if one pays or it in advance and then does not get one of the required exams passed, they will forfeit all of the money paid for it.
Since there are no jobs available currently, would be best to focus on passing all of the requirements and then submitting for the VSC. If the five years pass, then all is going to need to be redone as well and paid for once again.
Good day Guys!
I would like to ask about how to renew a license in US? I do not have any idea on how to renew my license.
I had my license in the state of Vermont, and as far as I know every state has this own way of renewing a license.
Will somebody tell me how to do it? My license will expire on March, 2011. Help me to figure it out. Thank you, your replies are very much appreciated. You can send your email here [email protected] or post it here.
Thank you again for your time.:)

Check with the Board of Nursing in Vermont. In recent years, many states have required that you be in the USA under a legal visa before they will renew your license. I have no idea if Vermont is one of them.
They do have a website so you may be able to renew online.
Well, what should I do? I am still here in the Philippines, how about my license? So it will just expires and I have nothing to do about it? I heard statements saying that if your license expires and the person holding the license did not renew it day by day you will be paying for penalty (I do not know exactly how much). I am confused with the processing. I opened the website of Vermont, unfortunately I can't open the link 'renewal application'. Help me out. tnx.
