License renewal

Published

Hello Good day to everyone Im Ricky, from the Philippines. I would ask if theirs a renewal in both Cgfns and Nclex License because i passed last 2007 and i read in my license that it will expires this march 31, 2009 in the Nclex but in the Cgfns i have no idea .

I have moved this thread to the International Forum where you will get more responses.

NCLEX is only an exam, it is not a license. If you were issued a license by a state, then it will have an expiration date and that is what you have. You will need to renew your license in order to keep it active. Just follow the instructions for renewal given to you by the state.

If you have already taken and passed the NCLEX exam, then you do not need to worry about the CGFNS exam any longer. This is currently only required for about four states; things have changed since you have tested.

Just make sure that you keep your license current.

Thanks but i have a wife whos still not taking the nclex but she already passed the CGFNS. Still is there expiration when cgfns is concerned?

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

If she hasn't taken NCLEX then there is no NCLEX expiration to think of. Where is she now, how will she be moving to the US? I would recommend either way she studying, applies to a state and sit NCLEX as eventually she will be required to do it as it is a requirements of all states if wanting to work as a RN

Did she write the English exams and has a CG Certificate, or just pass the CGFNS exam? The exam is only good for two years if she does not have the Certificate.

But again, it does not matter if she has taken the CGFNS exam or not; there are only four states now that still require that exam. And we have not seen any employer willing to petition now without having the NCLEX exam passed first.

Are you actually in the process of being petitioned for the US? If nothing has been started, please be aware that you are looking at probably seven years for a chance at a green card. It is no longer guaranteed. If she wishes to work in the US, then she is going to need to pass the NCLEX exam, no license without it.

CGFNS Certificates expire every 5 years. Make sure to apply early for the renewal so you don't get hung up on the time frame. CGFNS does not issue a license, it issues a visa screen certificate. Licenses depend on each State that you hold in but most are two years long.

Thank you for the early response guys thank you!!!!

To sum it up so i will renew my nclex license in what state i have passed and the cgfns certificate expires in every 5 years!!! we are applying for a visa screen and she is my dependent, so thats why while we are waiting for the papers she will be going to finest all the exams in order not to waste time if the visa screen will be finished soon. All your answers guys are legits?? sorry for asking!!!

Thank you all the responders!!

Sorry, but the poster above you has gotten you confused. You are speaking of two different things.

The CGFNS Certificate is what you get when you pass the CGFNS exam. It is not the Visa Screen Certificate that requires that one also passes the full set of English exams and then that is valid for five years and needs to be renewed.

You mentioned the Certificate, this is completely different from the VSC. And especially since you stated in an earlier post in this thread concerning your wife that has taken the CGFNS exam but has not written the NCLEX exam.

now im confused. ok lets start from the beginning. In order that the CGFNS certificate to be valid for 5 years it will also require a ENGLISH exams to have its validity and renewal?? if no english exams it will not be renew??

another question.. The Nclex exams is a one time exams, if you passed that one you only need to renew your license before the expiration date in order to continue its validity?? or if you dont have the ENGLISH EXAM you cannot renew it??

because still im not yet passed the english exams my band score is 6.5 but my speaking is 6 so thats why im a little anxious because my license in the nclex will expire this coming march 31, 2009, so i need to take another ielts exam because my speaking is 6,not a passing mark.

The person above was talking of the Visa Screen Certificate, that has a five year expiration for it. In order to get the VSC, one must pass the English exams as well as the NCLEX exam.

The point that I am trying to make to you is that the CGFNS exam is no longer needed or even used in the US. There are only four states out of fifty that actually want it. You will not see a legitimate employer that will even start the petitioning process without the NCLEX exam being passed, they no longer are interested in the CGFNS exam.

As long as one has the CGFNS Certificate for passing the exam and having the basic English done as well, then that does not expire. If they have only taken the exam and have not passed the English, then the exam is only valid for two years.

You are still mentioning your NCLEX license, there is no such thing as that. You have a license as an RN that is going to expire in March, it has nothing what so ever to do with the NCLEX exam. Even though one may renew their license, if you do not have experience as an RN somewhere in the world for a period of usually eight years, then the state does not have to renew your license and can require that you write the NCLEX exam again when you are from out of the country.

Unless English is required by the specific state for licensure, and then if it is, it would have needed to be done before you would have been given permission to even sit for the exam. The English is usually only for immigration purposes.

Have you been offered a contract by an employer as of yet? Or are you still waiting for that?

NCLEX exams are normally only written once, but if one never practices, then the state can require that it be written again after about 8 years or so.

Thanks again for the response, now another question for you, i had taken the ilets exam last 17 jan, i got a total band score of 6.5 but my speaking is 6, so thats entitles me not to get a cgfns certificate beacuse my speaking is below 7?
