License in different state

Published

Hey everyone, I just took my LPN boards and passed. I am in the process of applying for jobs in Indiana but am finding it very difficult to come across hospitals that hire LPNs. I start school back up in June for my RN, but would very much like to work in the mean time. There are several hospitals in Illinois that hire LPNs and I live very close to the boarder of Indiana and Illinois. Basically, I am wondering if anyone can help me with the figuring out the process for applying for a nursing license in a different state. Thank you in advance if anyone is able to help me!!

Yes, please visit the Illinois board of nursing website. There should be a section dedicated to applications/licensure/endorsement.

theres the link for the LPN by endorsement into Illinois packet.

If you have any questions after reviewing the IDPFR website, please contact your school of nursing. At the risk of sounding like a COB, it bewilders me that colleges and universities apparently fail to prepare their graduates for basic professional tasks such as job searches, applying for NCLEX and initial licensure, meeting continuing education requirements, endorsing licenses and maintaining licenses. If this was covered, and you didn't realize that it would one day apply to you, an advisor at your school should be able and willing to guide you. If this was never covered, then shame on them!

Thank you so much!

I was never taught how to search for jobs, I just did it! My school also never talked us through anything about our licenses. We just knew we had to take the NCLEX and pass! Everything I am learning about my license is through here and googling things.

I think exactly the same thing every time I read a post asking that info.

Thank you for commenting on the 'elephant in the room'

To obtain an Illinois LPN license, you will need to visit the Illinois Board of Nursing website and follow the directions on submitting an application to receive licensure by endorsement.

I am not being snide but, something tells me you have never worked before. Have you ever had a job?

In healthcare, no. I've had jobs before. But this doesn't have anything to do with me obtaining an Illinois license!
