I've decided to look into Liability Insurance. I was wondering if anyone had experience with NSO's program, or had any other recommendations? I know there's some controversy about whether it's a good idea to have it, but I am leaning strongly toward it because I want to protect my family if anything were ever to happen.

I have insurance with NSO. They are one of (maybe the) largest insurers of nurses in the US.
I don't know why there should be controversy. People who say it makes you a target are naive (plus...you won't be wearing a sign around your neck that says "I carry insurance, sue me"). Protect yourself.

I have used NSO for years. It is very reasonable. I think I pay 98 dollars/year. I have never yet needed it but would never think of not having it. Don't expect your hospital to protect you. If there is any way they could make the fault yours they will. That is why following hosptial policy is so important.

A lot of folks don't realize that when you have NSO, you are also covered for $10,000 worth of legal fees if you ever have to appear before the Board of Nursing. If you ever have worked with back-stabbing coworkers or a DON who is a psychopath, you'll be glad you had it. NSO saved my $$$ !

My policy is also with NSO. I started with them when it was mandatory to have insurance while in nursing school. Go to their website, http://www.nso.com. They have a section where you can read about cases. Fascinating reading.

NSO. A small price to pay for peace of mind.

NSO. I wouldn't step foot into a facility without it. And you don't have to announce to anyone that you have it but a nurse would be foolish not to carry it. You need to protect yourself at all times.
