hi everyone! i'm holli. i took boards on june 13th and passed with 75 questions. i am starting work on july 18th at the only hospital i ever wanted to work for. it is a great pediatric facility! i will be on the (post-op) surgical floor, and we also have all of the endocrine kids. also, they just added an epilepsy monitoring unit, for overnight monitoring and for the brain mapping they are doing. i expressed an interest in that, so they will cross-train me in that unit as well. i can't wait to get started!

so, tell me about you...

Hello my name is Petrina and I graduated this year in May for the LPN program. I live in California and I am waiting on my approval for my application to take my test(NCLEX). It's a four to six week process to approve the application in California since the state has so many applicants. Anyway I switch careers from being a computer tech to nursing and I am exciting and worried at the same time about the nursing industry.

what a coinsidance, i have epilepsy. i have taken meds for 50yrs. i have to say that having a hysterectomy helped tremendously because after that i didn't have the ups and downs of a hormonal change every month. i have even been able to stop one med totally and cut another med in half! and this is thanks to my neighbor who is a doctor.

oh i could really tell you some true stories of the things that have happened. it was like a wild ride since the age of 11 when the hormones got crazy. i was actually seeing colors!

anyway i got married, i have 2 children, got my nursing degree (not nursing at the present, but still want to at times).

write me back if you like.

Sorry I got off the track. I took the RN prereqs but missed it by .3 of a point to stay in the RN program so I went to the LPN and passed that with ease back in 1993.

I have thought about going back to finish. Maybe later.

Can I post here even if I' am from another country?

Hi everyone, my name is Christopher and I' am from the Philippines. Graduated BSN last March 29,2008 then took my board exam last June 1 & 2, 2008 :) Currently, while waiting for the results which will be due by the month of August, Im taking my masteral degree major in Med/Surg. Also I will be applying for NCLEX as soon as my requirements will be complete and start reviewing for NCLEX because I want to be my girlfriend who happens to be in California now. She was my classmate here and I miss her so much and she's the only reason why I will be applying for NCLEX

Of course you can post here. We're a very multicultural group at allnurses.com. Congratulations on completing your BScN. I would recommend that you do some reading of the threads on the International Forum about emigration to the US, particularly these:

https://allnurses.com/forums/f75/timeline-retrogression-314316.html

There are also many threads on the Phillipines Nursing Forum that discuss the sorts of things you're likely to have questions about.

If you would like to have questions about emigration and licensing answered, the International Forum is where you must go for those.

oh ..Thanks for the reply and the links, it was very helpful to me. It's awful and a sad reality that majority of my countrymen are leaving for a greener pasture. I just want to be with my girlfriend but the sad part is that I may have to wait for 5 years before that would happen unless we'll be able to come up with a better plan. Her mother doesn't want her to stay here in our country. Sad isn't it? I' m referring to their perception and mentality, most of them think that our country is hopeless :( I want to stay here and do change in my own little way, if only I could then I would. We have good plans, to work abroad, save , and go back here and create business to help others earn a living.

As a wife who has there, space is not always good for a relationship. You are only 22, young, maybe you should think about another plan. 5 yrs is a long time to wait.

Your aspirations are very self-less. But if you're putting all your hopes on the US, it will probably take a lot longer than five years. They're saying that those who are in line NOW will have to wait five years... or more. I think your country is doing a grave injustice to its own people by continuing to pump out new nurses when the global situation has shifted, without being honest and telling students that the great mecca for Filipino nurses, the US, is no longer taking them on in large numbers. They're getting people's hopes up and then leaving them to deal with the disappointment and sorrow that goes next. Don't even get me started on the agencies that prey on people such as yourself, filling their heads full of promises, taking their money and then leaving them high and dry with no job, no visa and no options. I feel bad for all the people like yourself who are in this situation, but there won't be any magic bullet that will make it all better.

Yes, that is very sad to note. I just want to be with my girlfriend. Either in the US or here in our country. Her mother doesn't want her to back here.

hello, i took my nclex on june 25th, and i am starting my work orientation tomorrow. i am a nervous wreck and don't no if i'll be adequate for the profession, esp what my co-workers will think of me. i'll be working at the tele unit, and i have worked there for two semesters of nursing school, still i am soooooooooo panicky. i am really hoping, i won't let my instructors and managers down. i just feel like crying because i feel like there's so much i still don't know .
