Hello all,
My husband and I are debating about having another baby while in NS. If it happens as plans, I will give birth 1-2 mos after graduation. I've talked to many recruiters and they advise students to start applying for an RN position a couple mos before graduation. Question is, will being pregant effect my chances of being hired? I figured they'd want me to have the baby first, then start working, but who knows. If they deny me for just the reason of being pregnant, isn't that a form of discrimination?

Yes. However, if they do deny you for the reason of being pregnant, I guarantee that they will have a completely different "official" reason.
That's a hard thing to prove.

They can't discriminate because you're pregnant- however- I don't think they have to hold your job while you're on maternity leave unless you've been an employee for 1 year.
Also- something to think about- your last year of nursing school will be SO stressful. It's hard being pregnant. It's HARD being a nursing student. Why not wait until you're done? I was always exhausted, stressed, and overwhelmed during my last semester- couldn't imagine being pregnant going through that.

My thought would be that while yes it is illegal to discriminate you definitely won't be first in line for whatever job you are hoping to get. I guess it depends on how badly you want to work right after graduation and also the condition of nursing jobs vs. new grads in your area. Best of luck with whatever you decide.
