Hi everyone,
I recently applied to lehman's nursing program for admittance into the Fall 2013 semester. Is there anyone who is already in the program, that can let me know what kind of scores on the HESI and gpas were accepted? I have a 3.9 GPA but I only got an 86 overrall on the HESI exam, so I am really nervous. I hope I get in, it's all I've ever wanted to be. Thanks for whoever replies to this.
RPI!!! =) I'm originally from Utica -- not exactly neighboring Rensselaer , but I still consider it pretty close. Are you originally from upstate?
As for my story, I went to Stony Brook and majored in sociology with a minor in child and family studies. I focused primarily on domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse with the intent of attending law school. After I graduated, I worked as a domestic violence victim advocate with an agency before accepting a position at the District Attorney...and that is, strangely, how I became interested in nursing. I had a lot of contact with doctors who would report the case -- I'd have to speak with them to obtain more detail for the prosecuting ADA or to reach out to the victim to give them a breakdown of their options and what to expect should they find themselves in the midst of the legal system. I'd also have to attend trainings and seminars led by medical professionals on what to look for in cases involving new changes to the law (for example, strangulation). That's when I decided to make the switch from the legal field to nursing because they were more on the "front line." I eventually want to become a SANE nurse, but I'm definitely taking it one day at a time. I swore up and down that when I left the field of working with crime victims I'd never return because it is very emotionally draining, but it's where my heart is and I just can't seem to leave it behind.
But anyway, best of luck in your decision!!!
Wow - very small world. I actually used to be a YWCA sexual assault counselor. I understand what you mean and LOVE - that you are going to be a SANE nurse. It may actually be a really great way to be involved & advocate for victims without being too drained. Remember, they don't want the nurses- to talk too much with the victims because they need to be able to testify on their behalf.
What kind of nurse do you want to be?
I have work until 5, and I don't think I'll be able to make it to the Nursing office until Wednesday. Does anyone know if registration's going to be a madhouse and should just skip work, or whether I shouldn't worry. I remember trying to sign up for HIN 268 before I was accepted, and it filled up the moment the first few people were seen. So I don't want another incident like that. Does anyone know what to expect?
I don't think it'll be a mad house because there arent enough sections for us all, but because everyone wants to have a good sechedule. However, if you are set on specific sections, I suggest you probably go into work late, and just get to the department early in the morning. I waited four hours for HIN 268, so whether it'll be a madhouse or not, I'm not taking an risks. It's mainly just being early to get the exact schedule you want, if you're okay with a little compromising then no need to rush, because there's space for us all.

Hey, thank you so much for the response. I just called the office and asked their opinion, and the woman there said that they already have classes set aside for us, and that our schedule has already been made. So not to worry about being closed out or anything. Has anyone heard any differently? I'm scared to take any risks too but I can't afford to lose work if I don't have to. However the nursing office has given me misguided information in the past so now of course I'm a nervous wreck lol.
@2jeanne- I'm not too sure about that. You'd have to call in and ask to be certain.
@thecoybandit- yea that's what I was saying, there are enough seats for us. But if you look up the classes, there are different sections. So it all depends on what times work best for your schedule. You will definitely get into every class you desire, but the issue is getting the exact time you want. So it's all up to you. I really can't say for sure what will happen.
But I'd like to get everything done Monday, so I begin preparing for physical, CPR etc. I'm already having trouble getting a doc's appointment to do a physical, they are all booked! ( I know I went off topic I apologize lol)
But yes, I would say it depends if you are not too worried about the timing of your schedule, because there's room for everyone.

That is such a relief, I can't even begin to tell you lol. However the woman I talked to said or made it sound like the classes, including their times, have already been picked out for us. That's why I was confused. I even asked, "So we don't pick out our own schedule" and she said, "That's correct."
@thecoybandit--- hmmm, that doesn't sound right. Why would they already choose our schedule, when they have no idea what our schedules are like outside of school. I personally don't want them making a schedule for me, this isn't highschool, it's college. Well either way I will be going on Monday. I will definitely keep you updated and let you know what happened if you are unable to come Monday.
