  1. Hi up_a_hill! During orientation it was mentioned for accelerated student the cut off for this past incoming class was a 3.7, and for generic students a 3.5. I don't think they really put much emphasis on your previous degree gpa. Now i only applied to generic and I was accepted with a 3.9 gpa and I received an 86 on the HESI exam. I think the gpa and HESI exam is what is looked at mostl Sorry I couldn't give much info specifially about the accelerated, hope this helps!
  2. I took micro a year ago and I absolutely loved it-- especially lab!!!! It's very interesting and that made it really easy for me, because I payed attention in class. Good luck with all the classes you are taking!
  3. Hello. For questions like these use this formula: Ml/minutes x drip factor. Since the first problem states 1 hour that is 60 minutes. So you would set up as so: 125 ml/ 60 minutes x drip factor which was provided. Good luck!
  4. As the others mentioned, it depends where you live. I live in New York and we have public transportation, so I just use that. The public transportation is very unreliable sometimes, but I do not have money to buy a car right now. Gas is really expensive, and finding parking in New York is sometimes a joke. Most of the hospitals have parking but it is very expensive, so if you want to drive you must give yourself ample amount of time to find a parking. So public transportation, though it is annoying works best. But a car is nessacary if you live somewhere that does not have transportation or requires lots of traveling. I do hope though that I can afford a car soon. Luckily the hospital I am going to be at this semester is only 20 minutes from my house by train!!!!! Good luck this semester!
  5. Hi! Yes , the three programs I have found so far are for BSN students entering their senior year of nursing school. They all seem to have similar requirements eg transcripts, resume and cover letter, as well as letters of recommendation. I am not particularly sure where I could find how many slots are available, as they don't mention it, but I am sure I can get this information from the recruiters? I live in New York, so I'm pretty sure there are many applicants. Based on pictures that I have seen of past Nurse interns, I have seen from 15-20 students, so so far that is my only indicator. These are all paid internships, so I wouldn't think many applicants are chosen Thank you for your advice.
  6. Hi everyone! I am beginning my nursing program in exactly two weeks and I cannot wait!!!! Anyways, I have already began to look into summer internships for summer 2014. So far, I have found 3 internships that I am interested in. However, is three enough, or should I plan to apply to more? My choices are a bit limited due to personal preferences. For example, many of these internships require a lot of traveling. So, how many internships should I aim to apply to? Thank you in advance to all who reply to this!
  7. I apologize for spelling and grammar mistakes, I am writing this on my I touch.
  8. Hello. Now I did not apply to Hunter's program, but I did apply to Lehman, since both are in the CUNy system I assume they have pretty similar processes. Now you say you are entering freshman year this fall, if this is true, you will not finish all pre-req's within one year. Unless you already have a bachelor's, then a year is possible. However, if you are a first time college student, or do not have any degrees, then it will take you about 2 years before you can apply to the program. Before applying to Lehman I had to take anatomy and physiology I & II, microbiology, general chemistry with lab, and organic chemistry with lab, and lastly, the human development and lifespan. Along with these classes you must complete all general education requirments( language, English, liberal arts classes, writing intensives). For lehman specifically, in order to apply to the program, one must accumulate a total of 60 credits with all of the above courses mentioned completed. A grade C or better must be obtained, though I recommend B+ and above. Now lehman no longer uses the NLN, they use the HESI exam now. We were tested on A&P, English and math. I received an 86 out of 100, not great but I got in, but I have a 3.9 gpa to go along with that. In terms of other colleges in ny, each is different. So I agree with the previous poster, do you research now, and get all dates, requirements, etc as soon as possible. Also, if you plan to apply to any thee cuny college, you must be admitted to Lehman college itself first before you can apply. I am sorry I was only able to give information about Lehman, but I believe the process and requirements are similar. Good luck. Stay focused, study hard, and you will make it!
  9. Also IMO, getting a really expensive watch during nursing school is not wise. You want a watch that if it got damaged from some bodily fluid or was scratched you'll be able to shrug it off and get a new one. But that's just what I think! :)
  10. I'm not sure what a sweeping secondhand watch is, but I believe the nursemates watch has a ticking second hand. But I highly recommend it, when I received it though, it did not work, so I payed about 5 dollars and got a new battery, and that did the job. So that is the only complaint I have.
  11. Hi! If your school requires you to brings your textbook you need a regular book bag. Rolling kind? Eh not a fan lol. In terms of a watch, I am not sure if you are a woman or guy(sorry no offense). But I got the nursemates basic dial watch on amazon. It was only 25 bucks!! I absolutely love it! It is white, waterproof, EXCELLENT second hand( they made it red and longer than the other 2 hands), and military time. It's cute too, so that can't hurt!!! Also, congrats on beginning nursing school! I begin in 3 weeks as well.
  12. Cumulative: 3.9 Science: 3.9 My school also requires the HESI exam and I received an 86% on that. I'm beginning the BSN program this fall. Can't wait!!
  13. I think our uniforms are okay... for tall people that is lol. It's a royal blue zip top from Dove Apparel, and white pants from anywhere. The top is so uncomfortable, very itchy and heavy, I was sweating within five minutes. I like how it fits me though, it's just really long for me; I'm very petitie( 4'10), so the top looks like a loose mini dress on me.. Haha! I would love to get it cut, but the pockets are at the bottom of my top, so there's no way around that:( oh well only two years of this.
  14. Hey! I went today to get my packet and permission. I arrived around 8:45 am and left around 1. It took so long because we had to wait for advisors to arrive, in order to get permission. I believe permission for new nursing students ends when the office closes, or when the advisor decides to leave. I was told faculty was given the option to come to work early and leave early, or come to work late and leave late. I got all my classes. The accelerated have classes set aside for them, so even though you didn't go, you will be fine! Good luck!!!
  15. NicuGal, I completely forgot about the fever part. Woops. Sorry about that :) In that case, scratch out my response.
