Lehman College Nursing program 2013

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently applied to lehman's nursing program for admittance into the Fall 2013 semester. Is there anyone who is already in the program, that can let me know what kind of scores on the HESI and gpas were accepted? I have a 3.9 GPA but I only got an 86 overrall on the HESI exam, so I am really nervous. I hope I get in, it's all I've ever wanted to be. Thanks for whoever replies to this.

Hey! I also applied to their fall 2013 program!

I heard they focus more on the science courses and your GPA and not too much on the HESI exam.

Hopefully we get in!

I hope you are right, because I've been hearing that the HESI scores are looked at first, then science gpa, and then overrall gpa. I could be wrong, hopefully you're right! And yes! Hopefully we get in! Good Luck!!!

I also applied for fall 2013, but I'm not too sure I'll get in. I just dropped off the area of concentration form (I'm a 2nd degree student) and the transfer credit evaluation form today. I spoke with an advisor in the nursing department to complete the area of concentration form and he said the cut-off for last year was a 3.8. I don't know if he was referring to the accelerated program, the generic, or both. I also have a 3.9 (unless I get an A- in microbiology, then it will be a 3.8), but my cumulative GPA from my degree about a decade ago is bad (2.85). I received an overall score of a 90 on the HESI (my lowest was A&P with an 88). When I told him my score, he didn't really have much of a response, he just kind of shrugged his shoulders and said, "It's okay." When I asked if a 90 was a good score, he just said, "It's just okay."

I'm not sure what they look at the most, it seems to be the pre-req grades, though. On the application, the section at the bottom has a series of calculations for the grades. They probably calculate the GPA score then use the HESI exam scores to narrow down the applicants, then look at the cumulative GPA to further narrow it down. I'm really not putting too much faith in receiving an acceptance letter. But, good luck to everyone!!!!!

Hi Destin 293, wow you have great grades! I wouldn't worry too much about your gpa you receive for your first degree being that oh did so well in the science pre-req's. I am just nervous about my HESI score. Also, it seems each nursing advisor seems to have a different view on what the cut-off is. I spoke to the chair person herself, and I was told the lowest science gpa that was admitted last year was a 3.5. I met a nursing student who was admitted last year and said she received a 90 on the HESI and had a 4.0 gpa. So I think you should be fine. I wish you luck. I applied to the generic. Also, microbiology is not so bad, I took it last semester and received an A, my challenge is organic chem , which I'm taking right now. I wish you luck and hope we get in! I just wish we found out sooner, so I have more time to create a back up plan in case I don't get in. * fingers crossed*

I too applied for Fall 2013 entry. My gpa is a 3.79 and I scored a 95 on the HESI. When I spoke to the director, Dr. ****, she told me that they solely focus on your prereqs and your HESI score. They don't look at work experience nor your undergraduate GPA. We should hear back in June with an admissions decision...the administrative assistant said the second week in June. Although, I saw in an earlier post, last year, they let the class know by June 8th. I'm hoping that translates to June 7th for us. I put all my eggs in this one basket. I hope it pays off.

@talinda I too only applied to Lehman. I'm getting super nervous as June approaches!

Well good luck to you all! I also only applied to Lehman, and I keep getting more nervous every day as June approaches. Hopefully we all get in; it seems there's a lot of competition. And wow @Talinda, congrats on that HESI score, I wish I got that lol.

@Toya932 - Thank you!

@elchavito and @Toya932 - I'm getting nervous too...I'm debating whether or not to apply to LIU.

Yes there is a lot of competition at Lehman. 3.8 was the cutoff for the accelerated program last year. I'm not sure about the generic program, however they did tell us that our generic class had the highest cutoff for gpa thus far. So i know it is getting a lot more competitive. If you did well on your Hesi (90 and up) and have at least a 3.7 gpa im pretty sure you will get in without worry. Unfortunately this really depends on how well other applicants did on the Hesi/course requirements. Even if you got an 85, do not be discouraged! You still may have done better than most of the applicants. I know the anticipation guys! I went through the same thing last year!! Two forms in the envelope means your in!!!

The countdown has started -- hopefully we all hear back soon! As a little FYI, they haven't started reviewing the applications yet. I spoke with the secretary after learning my BMCC transcript I requested on May 19th still wasn't processed -- she told me not to worry because the applications haven't been reviewed yet. I don't know how long it takes, but I doubt we'll be hearing back this week.

Hi girlygirl,

With regard to the envelope, can you tell by not even opening it? Or is it just a flat envelope, because they mention an orientation packet being included, so I'm a bit nervous about the size of the envelope lol. I am so scared, I'm even dreaming about nursing at night haha.
