Just wondering if anyone else had applied to Legacy Health (Emmanuel Children's Hospital)? This is in Portland, OR. It closed last Friday and I am wanting to know when people start hearing from them about interviews. Thanks for any info you have!!
The only thing that I can think of that might be keeping them from emailing is acceptance from the chosen applicants. I got into nursing school earlier than any of my pre-req classmates because someone backed out. So maybe they won't email us until 2/14 when they know for sure they don't have space for us.
I've seen 2 threads on here about nurse residency/intern applicants that are questioning whether or not they should take the position or not!
I am in Bolivia, I planned it around the dates they had stated on the application. So if I do get a call for a 2nd interview it would have to be by Skype! But I am thinking I might go back to school for Nurse Practitioner specializing in Peds. Not sure what THAT job market looks like, but I am going to research this. I want to work Pediatrics and no doors seem to be opening very wide for that in my life! Good luck to all!! I will post if and when I hear anything from Legacy.
I got my "thanks for playing" email yesterday as well. I only know one person who even got a second interview, but I don't know if she finally got accepted.
Ah, well. It's nice they said it's not a reflection on our individual qualifications, etc. But then I wonder, well what is it about the new grads that were selected? Did they have 4.0 GPAs (as opposed to 3.92)? Previous CNA experience? Easy on the eyes? I wonder sometimes...
Good luck, everyone and hang in there!
I have heard that many people who have gotten into the residency program had clinical experience at a Legacy facility and the managers knew and liked them, or they had other friends or family members who worked at a Legacy facility.
I think it's just a matter of having trusted people inside Legacy that were willing to be a reference for the applicant.
They have so many people apply, I don't know how they even whittle it down.
ive applied to this legacy residency two times now. i graduated in may 2010, and the only nursing experience i have is working two days as a flu nurse. do u think its time i give up on waiting around for this residency program and get with reality and find something/anything to put my BSN degree to use? my fear is that if i start a nursing job, i will no longer be eligible for all/any residency programs b/c in order to qualify for residency programs u need less than 6 mos experience... thoughts? opinions?
on another note, are u all finding it hard to even get ur foot in the door? the great thing about residency programs is that they cater to my level of experience: new grad. if i try to find a nursing job that is not a residency but rather compete with everyone else out there for RN job postings, there is no way that they would hire me, a new grad vs a nurse who has "2-3 years nursing expereince." thoughts on this and what i can do? i am getting desperate for work, anything to boost my self-esteem as a stare at these endless rejection emails
I got my "no go" letter as well. Ashyash, I planned on trying one more time, but now feel it is probably a waste of time. I applied to many residency programs, with nothing but interviews and a bunch of time and money spent. I think these programs are really geared for the people who did their clinicals at the specific hospitals, or they know someone, high enough up to help them get their foot in the door. Not sure exactly how I will proceed, but I don't think I will apply for anymore residency programs. Good luck to all!!

I am so in the same boat as you and I have good weeks where I'm all positive and hopeful then the next week I'm crying myself to sleep. I apply and apply and either hear nothing back or get the quick rejection email. I'm so tired of friends and family who are just trying to help but give the same responses to my unemployment status: "what about a temp agency?" "I thought nurses were in huge demand?" "what about nursing homes?" It's frustrating because I want to say DUUUUH. Do they really think I'm not trying those routes??
As far as Legacy I only know a couple people who got 2nd interviews a couple weeks ago and neither of them got a position. I'm almost glad I didn't have a 2nd and get my hopes up only to get rejected again.
I'm thinking of writing some Oregon politicians to implore them to consider some kind of incentive program for hospitals to hire Oregon new grads.

So odd that they have not even sent out rejection emails or that only one person's friend (from my memory) on here had gotten a call by now....
I've definitely felt that since the job market is the way it is...(packed with qualified nurses)..it seems keeping their word on deadlines and such have gone a bit by the wayside? Its almost like since they can be incredibly picky with their new hires, they don't seem to remember they are holding people's futures in the palm of their hands. I know I am incredibly lucky for the opportunity that I have received, but I KNOW that each and everyone of you will get your chance as well because we all deserve it!!!
