I am so in the same boat as you and I have good weeks where I'm all positive and hopeful then the next week I'm crying myself to sleep. I apply and apply and either hear nothing back or get the quick rejection email. I'm so tired of friends and family who are just trying to help but give the same responses to my unemployment status: "what about a temp agency?" "I thought nurses were in huge demand?" "what about nursing homes?" It's frustrating because I want to say DUUUUH. Do they really think I'm not trying those routes?? As far as Legacy I only know a couple people who got 2nd interviews a couple weeks ago and neither of them got a position. I'm almost glad I didn't have a 2nd and get my hopes up only to get rejected again. I'm thinking of writing some Oregon politicians to implore them to consider some kind of incentive program for hospitals to hire Oregon new grads.

Well I am very happy for you but honestly your experience is the difference. You are right there are a ton of jobs for RN's with experience. There is currently an over abundance of new grads and extremely difficult, I apply and apply but once they know I don't have 2 yrs or more I'm off the list. Again, congrats and enjoy Oregon, I've lived here my entire life and love it. :)

PS: she was called and went in the very next day for the interview.

My good friend got her second interview for med/surg this last week. Her interview went really well but the reality is that they were only hiring one person for his hospital. He said that last time they took too many people and having the new hires plus their preceptors on the floor was just way too congested and so they decided to cut numbers due to that also. He was going on vacation this week so she won't hear till next week. I realized my chances were small, 5% to be exact, but I do wish they would've sent out a final e-mail so we would know when the departments we applied for were filled.

Wow what an experience. During my senior practicum I heard a lot of nurses tell stories of how a new RN is often thrown to the wolves, so to speak. It's really sad because with the type of work we do we should all really support each other not enjoy watching novice nurses suffer. I hope you're happy where you are now.

I hope I don't sound horribly negative but it is so frustrating and when I see so many posts about people coming here to work I just want to scream NOOOOO! I'm glad you found something. I'm having a horrible time looking for a SNF too and that seems to be everyone's advice when they hear you're not working. Everyone says and I say well not around here and then they suggest I work in a SNF and I want to say duuuuh it's not like I'm not totally for that but nobody is leaving their job so there are very few openings.Hopefully something will happen, I just have to stay positive and that just seems to get harder and harder each day.

Thank you for your kind message. I think I'm just becoming really bitter. You know we all worked so hard to where we are and I knew I probably wouldn't find my dream job but I never thought that 7 months after graduation I'd still be looking. Oregon is so overly saturated with nurses that facilities are just not hiring. There are lots of positions for experienced nurses but nobody is willing to invest the time/money into new grads. There are literally hundreds of new grads right now looking for work. I've lived in Oregon my whole life and now I'm having to contemplate leaving for the East coast or something I wish everyone the best but it worries me to see so many people writing in about relocating to Oregon.

Hate to be a buzz-kill but the job market in Oregon stinks! Graduated in June, live in Portland (the biggest city in Oregon) and I'm totally freaking out. In the past a new nurse might have to work in a SNF for a while before moving to a hospital but there are so many of us looking it's become a matter of luck and who you know.

Well no more stress, the deadline was today and and no call. 300 applicants and only 16-20 positions the odds were against so many of us so maybe it was best not to go to the interview and still not get the position. I know 3 people who got into the residency program this past summer and they all had relatives who were nurse managers. I don't have any inside connections. It stinks to know that they already know who their going to hire but still have to go through all the steps. It is killing me that there are so many new nurses, including myself, that are so eager to start our careers. As June gets closer I just start freaking out about the hundreds of additional nurses that will be added to the job pool. Somethings got to happen, how in the world are we going to get the experience if nobody hires us?
