  1. Thank you for your input. This meds situation is a little different. I've done a lot a research on it in my own time. Its NOT used or approved in any other country and even the World Health Organization does not approve of it being used for this particular "off label" use. The U.S. is the only country that uses it and I personally believe it is because it is less expensive than the alternative approved drugs that serve the same purpose. In fact, it is not used at any hospital in the city I just moved from for this particular use either! It is also scary to me because there is no way to reverse the effects of the drug if a toxicity occurs. There are ways to "calm" what has happened but no specific fix all antidote. The other thing that really bothers me is I feel the patients are not fully aware of the possible side effects and/or the fact that if this does happen it becomes an emergency situation where we are pumping some more drugs into them and basically praying they work in time without causing a whole list of side effects themselves. I am new, both at nursing and at my job, so that is why I wanted to know my rights before approaching the docs or my manager about it. Nothing like being the pain in the ass new grad/new hire! Thanks again for your input! :-)
  2. Are nurses allowed to choose whether or not they will pass a med that is being used "off label" even if its used in this fashion quite often? I work on a floor that uses a drug off label all the time and there are warnings ALL over the box against using it for this purpose. It makes me extremely uncomfortable to give this med so I would like to know if I am allowed to not give this med (the patient can still receive it from another nurse, just not me) if I choose. Thank you!
  3. Hi Bill, I did not get accepted into this cohort but I did just endorse my California license to Oregon. Before I actually lived here I never got called back for interviews, even after I had my Oregon license in hand. But, now that I am here (been here one week!) I am finally starting to get call backs and have my first interview set up for tomorrow (not through Legacy) but I am still very excited because its on the floor I want! :-) The process of endorsement is VERY easy, although you will be paying for your licensing fees and fingerprinting fees twice (one for NC and one for OR). From my experience, it didn't seem to matter to employers which license I had in hand, it only mattered what my address and phone number said on my resume. So, I would say, if you will be moving back to Oregon within 6 weeks of finishing nursing school, then go ahead and take the NCLEX in Oregon (so you only pay for your licensing fees once) but if you will not be moving back for awhile, I say take the NCLEX in North Carolina and then have it endorsed for Oregon later. The endorsement process took me about 6 weeks but that is because the first set of my fingerprints were not clear enough to be read so I had to do them again. I started the endorsement process as soon as a passed the NCLEX in California and about 6 weeks before I actually moved I had my Oregon license in hand. Ultimately its up to you what you want to do but keep in mind that statically your failure rate will rise the longer you wait after graduating to take the exam. This is why I took mine in California and then had it endorsed to Oregon.
  4. Thank you! My fingers are crossed for you as well!
  5. I just wanted to let everyone know that they just tweeted that they are still in the process of selecting people for final interviews.... Maybe there is some hope left for us that have not been called yet! :)
  6. So I guess that means final interviews will be done by then? Has anyone else heard about a second interview? I kind of thinking I'll get a "thanks but no thanks" letter any day now. It seems they would have called by now if I was going to picked for a final interview.... I'm still trying to stay positive though. At least until the end of this week anyway! :)
  7. I applied for the Birth Center. I feel you on the rejection letters..... I am having a hard time because I am out of town and trying to move to Oregon (for family reasons) so I can't even network at all... I am currently in San Diego and the market is the same here. 500 applicants for every new grad hiring session. One of the hospitals had TWO new grad openings and still had over 500 applicants. CRAZY! The hospitals here are also only leaving their application submission times open for three or four days and they close it at any time as soon as they reach a certain amount of applicants. So, if you are not watching the job openings a couple times a day then you get left out. Legacy head theirs open for a long time so I can only imagine how many applicants they had, and then having to interview them all. It makes me wonder who they remember the most... They people who went first, or the people who went last? You know? Anyway, good luck to you and like I said before, I am keeping my fingers crossed for us all! :)
  8. There is another thread going about the summer cohort. Congrats on getting the second interview! I am patiently waiting to hear back myself!
  9. Has anyone else heard anything yet? The anticipation is brutal! For those of you that have heard, which floors are you interviewing with? That is, if you don't mind sharing. I am just curious if each floor is doing their own thing (interview wise) or if we will all be scheduled for the same day again. Anyone know?
  10. Congrats to you too!
  11. Congrats! Fingers crossed for the rest of us! :)
  12. I am also an out-of-state applicant but have completed my over the phone prescreen interview. It was my first over the phone interview ever and I really feel I would have done better in person.. :-( Anyway, just curious if anyone has heard back yet about a final interview? I asked the manager that interviewed me how long it would be until we heard back and she said 2-3 weeks after your prescreen interview, which because mine was last Thursday June 2nd, that would mean that it could be early July before I hear anything. She also said that as far as she knows, the start date is still scheduled for July 24th (I think it was) despite the fact all the interviews were pushed back. I know we can't all get in but I wish us all luck anyway! :-)
  13. Thank you so much!
  14. Thank you for the information. One more question, if I just buy the book, how is that proof to a future employer that I have the knowledge needed? Wouldn't I need to take some sort of test/class and get a certificate of sorts? Perhaps I misunderstood the job requirements...
  15. I have seen a few job openings in Oregon (in maternity nursing) that require STABLE course work. I have looked this information up online but I can't seem to find any classes actually offered in Oregon (which I thought was strange considering its a requirement to apply for a job). Has anyone heard of this program? Any information you have would be appreciated!
