Doesn't it just drive you insane when someone tells you that Mr. Smith's O2 STAT is 96%?
It's O2 SAT people! Sat, short for saturation. I even hear respiratory therapists saying this. I am sooooo tempted to say something next time, but I know it's just petty, so I needed to vent here. Thank you.

I actually think this is cute . . . sugar diabetes. I love that they add "sugar" to it.

Hehe...I suppose 'sugar' is easier to pronounce than 'Diabetes Mellitus'. I guess it came about to distinguish DM from Diabetes Insipidus. People 'get' the terms 'sugar' diabetes and 'water' diabetes. Speaking of, I hate when people (healthcare, not lay) say the following:
-Blood sugar in place of 'Blood glucose' (the proper term)
and
"Diobol" instead of "Diovol"
I try to not be a word Nazi, but I have my weaknesses....
Oh yeah..."Ejection FRACTURE" (said by a lay person though, so that's OK). But still a good one!

1) Metropolol instead of Metoprolol (met-TOE-pro-lol folks!!!!!!!!!!!)
2) Orientated instead of Oriented (Or-E-en-ted). Orientated (Or-E-en-tate-ed) is NOT a word! Stop adding syllables! There is no tate in Oriented! It is amazing how many otherwise well educated healthcare folks can't get that one right!
