Lazy, demanding staff

Nurses Relations

What ever happened to strong work ethics?

I have so many concerns about nursing today. But regardless of what I say I will cause nothing but trouble! As far as work ethic is concerned, I feel that it is different for each individual. Management can enhance and promote a good work ethic by example and initiatives.

I don't see staff doing the minimum

nor do I see any gameboys or puzzles

I do see sicker patients

more regulations

and more of us cleaning toliets and floors

because housekeeping has been reduced

luckily our management appreciates our hard work

I agree. Lucky you, at least mgt appreciates this. Many are not so fortunate. But all you say is true here.

DITTO!.....and l am ever happy not to have a manager with this attitude.....l go to work....never take a break, seldom take a lunch...do more with less....come home with less to give my family because l am so tired....l stay later than my shift when the ship is sinking.......either you have a staff that is a total dud (doubtful) or someone needs to start a thread called selfish, clueless managers.............LR:rolleyes:

I too have noticed a change in work ethics over the years. I also am in management and have been for several years. I think what some fail to see that are not in management - how much time we have to spend on the people that don't do their jobs. Those people are growing in numbers.

Unfortunately there are lazy nurses, nurses with no work ethics, nurses who steal drugs, steal patients belongs, who don't pass their medication etc etc. We all have seen them and worked with them.

Fortunately, there are wonderful nurses. Nurses that go the extra mile. Nurses like this we have all worked with...and can point them out too.

Also from a management perspective, not only are the "bad" nurses/employees increasing in number it's becoming tougher and tougher to get rid of them.

Another way of saying it: management is not exhibiting effective leadership/staff supervision AND "those people" are being hired in growing numbers by interviewers (management) who don't know what they are doing.

A motto for you: "A poor workman always blames his tools."

lazy demanding staff

selfish clueless managers

pity the patients

;) ^5........where l work....lazy staff are the minority.....basicly get eaten alive by the rest of us.....then again....we have some leadership going on......to be honest, a manager COULD find that they have been stuck with a poor staff at large, however, why would you stay in such a position?.....says more about the manager than the staff...imo.........LR

Sure I have broad shoulders, I'll take the blame for the drug addicts, patient abusers, thiefs. Wouldn't want to put any blame on Mom and Pop now would we. Let's blame management. A good manager owns all the problems and works on fixing it. I guess you wouldn't know that.

Oh and btw...if management didn't know what they were doing...guess they would be clueless to it even happening right?

Maybe Sjoe, you could give me a few pointers on spotting drug addicts, abusers and thiefs during job interviews? Handwriting analysis? Lie detectors for their people they list as references? Criminal background checks is mandatory. What would you recommend ..a crystal ball?

Never heard that one before.....but any excuse is better than none.....maybe you can get some tips from my manager...we don't have these problems......l am not in mngmt....so do not ask me how to do your job.

Lazy , well I dont know about you guys but sometimes I leave work ,after not having a break ,or dealing so short staffed that it becomes a safety issue ,and wonder what more I could have done besides offer up one of my healthy kidney's to a patient in need......

Lazyness much like stupidity , affects all age groups, professions, races, both genders and will never die...

I wasnt around for the "good old days"

and sometimes I'm really happy about that.....

if the good old days meant having no personal life whatsoever, devoting your entire life to your work , breaking your back prematurely and making the doctors coffee then I want NO part of it...

you know what Wendy???.....l was around for the good old days...my dad was a blue collar union worker, my mom a an office supervisor for a large county division(clerk of courts)....they both had impeccable work ethics.....they also had breaks, lunch, safe working conditions, and bosses who showed appreciation and respect.......at least in one aspect the original poster was right....the good old days are long gone.
