Last minute Prep prior to NCLEX-RN

Published

I'd like to ask any of you who have passed the NCLEX-RN about how you spent your last few days ( one week) prior to the exam. What did you guys do and what other review did you do? I am taking mine this coming saturday (nov. 26) and I'm becoming more anxious thinking that I may have forgotten everything I have been studying in the last 5-6 weeks. I'm beginning to have a BRAIN FART! I'm also asking for your prayers to help me in passing the board (the second time)....Thank you! Happy thanksgiving to all!!!

I'm still in my 4th yr, and i want to share some pieces of advice from our graduates and had been passed the exam. They tell us not to cram, be more relax instead, do your normal routine and treat the last minute as an ordinary day. Be yourself and boost your self-confidence with prayers as always!!!:saint:

I agree! You either know it by now or you don't and cramming isn't going to change that. Just take these last few days to relax and just so you know, I never felt so stupid in my entire life as I did when I took boards, and I still managed to pass! Just remember, a whole lot of nursing is just good old fashioned common sense. Good luck!

First of all. Good luck on Saturday!

Second of all..dont study anymore! You will only make yourself even more stressed out.

A Few tips:

* Go to bed early the night before

*Wake up early, and eat a good breakfast

*Dress in comfortable clothing

*arrive early

*When you sit down to take the test, take a deep breathe, let it out, and realize you know this information. You have been taught in it school, you know how to reason through it to find the answers, and you will find the answer.

*Read questions COMPLETELY. My big problem on school tests was i skimmed the question - never fully read it. I always re-read it after I found my answer and found some small word that changed the answer completely.

*Eliminate the 2 wrong answers. Remember, the other 2 are usually right, but you need to find the one that is more right.

* Use your knowledge. For prioritizing questions, why should you see a certain patient first..just use that knowledge that you have gained in nursing school and you will find the answer.

*If you dont know an answer, use your best judgement. Its ok to miss some.

*If you get stressed during the test, close your eyes, imagine something calm (a beach, sunset)take a deep breathe, and let it go. Let yourself destress, then refocus yourself to the NCLEX.

*Use the board given to you to work out drug calcs (if you get any). Even if it seems simple-dont do it in your head. Make sure you have the answer on paper first. You dont want to miss a question just because you divided wrong in your head.

*you know you can do this. Its just a matter of doing it. Reading the question, and using your knowledge.

*When its all over, dont cry- go out and treat yourself to something! You have just taken one of the biggest tests of your life, so celebrate! Get a new shirt, new shoes, or even get yourself a smoothie.

Best of Luck since you are soon to be a :nurse: !!!!

As of today, the books should be closed. If you do not know it by now, cramming is not going to help. NCLEX is not set up as trying to check your memory, but what you would do in a particular situation. Think of it in those terms and that will help you pass.

Please keep me posted.:)

Tomorrow, have fun with the sales, go to a movie, etc., just take time for yourself.

well said, everyone! i don't want to lie but my anxiety is eating me right now...i guess, i was traumatized from the first time i took the test and waited so long to get the result finding out i failed:crying2: ..but with all you guys' help (especially suzanne:thankya:) and with the lord's guidance:saint: , i know i will...let me say that again...i will pass the board this time:nurse: ! this will be my greatest gift for my b-day and christmas...please include me in your prayers. happy thanksgiving to all! thank you:)

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!!

I WILL PRAY FOR YOU! and KEEP US POSTED !

GOD WITH YOU!!!!:saint: :nurse:
