Large dose of reality just received!

Published

I was sitting here decorating my binder, having happy thoughts about class this week, when a letter arrives.

Long story short it says this: READ CHAPTER ONE AND DO THE STUDY GUIDE BEFORE YOU EVEN COME TO CLASS OR YOU WILL FAIL. HAVE A NICE DAY.

Holy smokes! Guess it's true, I'm in the big leagues now!

Yeah I got a similar email! Read chapter one in Health assessment and Read the first 3 chapters in medical math AND do the workbook!!!! HUH????? BY MONDAY?????? OMG :banghead: Let's get to work LOL!!

After the end of our first week, we received an email from our professor yesterday telling us what to come to class with on Tuesday. She said at the end of the email "prepare to be overwhelmed" :uhoh21::uhoh3:

You are in the big league! We have over 4 chapters in our med surg book to read, 4 in our pharm book. We are supposed to do the workbook with the med surg book. We are supposed to do an entire care plan on a simulation online, and drug cards for respiratory meds before we ever go to a class, which is on Monday. It takes 3-5hrs/chapter. Its like this until the end, its been my experience not to count on breaks for a break, b/c we are always preparing for our next class on the break.

Let the games begin!

Whoop! It starts!!! Have fun :D

Same here! Just finished my first 3 days of nursing school... We were to read chapters 1-7 of health assessment and the first chapter of med term. Our first quiz was the second day of class and our first exam was the third day of class. Monday marks the beginning of our first whole week. Yikes! Second exam and ATI adult vitals check off, two exams and 3 days of clinicals assuming we pass ATI vitals :)

Ugh! Feeling inadequate much?

I'm going into week 3 and I've already read, oh you know, 14 or so chapters! I am literally studying 8 hours a day to keep up with the reading and the quiz I'm having this week. I think I got my dose of reality when we were going over the 70 page syllabus for one class and every other thing was like, do this and you fail the course, don't do that and you fail the course, act of god and you fail the course (j/k about that last one...sort of).

On the plus side, we're in nursing school! We're living our dream. Feels good to be in a program when I know so many people struggle to make it in. But now we're heading into the tough part. Hope to see you on the other side as a future RN. :)

Try not to feel inadequate. You can do it and you are adequate. That said, sometimes, you will. Actually, in my program, we've noticed a trend, it seems to sort of cycle-you feel good, you feel panicked, you feel terribly inadequate, then you feel good again (in my mind, the cycle feels like sound waves...not important). You might go through the whole cycle in one day, maybe over a week, maybe you are lucky and only feel inadequate once in the whole semester. The important thing is to remember that you are not, find someone who is feeling pretty good about things at the time, and let them talk you down, then when they call or are in class panicking, you take your relaxed and sunny attitude and share:hug:.

I'm doing really well so far in my 1st semester of nursing school. Yet still I get moments of "God, can I really do this?". It is overwhelming, but I've found I just need to get started and as I master pieces of it, the rest begins to feel more manageable.

Wow. This is nerve wrecking.. I have four more prerequisites to go then the Teas exam.... I hope to be in your shoes soon!

You guys, are scaring me, lol. My first day of nursing school is not until Sept 24tg
