My home health agency has been on the laptop for a little over 2 years now. We have had major problems with them freezing up, hard drives going out, batteries dies an hour after unplugging (only on 1). I was just wondering if there are any laptops or tablets that anyone could recommend to use. They will have to be durable.

The Toughbook is what you seek. Panasonic Rugged Laptops - Official Panasonic Toughbook Rugged Computers
If you do charting through a website or can move it to Excel or any other format then you can get away with an iPad with a LifeProof case.
Thank you, we currently have Dell computers, and I am not impressed with them at all. I am wondering if they are referbished, and our IT company didn't tell us. I know the nurses aren't throwing them around, but they do get a lot of action getting moved in and out of our office, and 5-6 patient homes a day.

I quit a telecommuting position, that paid well.... because they kept Fedexing piece of junk laptops. You deserve decent equipment.
Thinking it is administration's responsibility to provide that. Hopefully, Asystole gave you the info you need to present to management.

I have similar issues with the laptops provided by my employer. Mine is constantly overheating, freezing up, and losing charge quickly. Others at work have the same problems with theirs. I have had my current laptop for about 5 years now, and have asked for a replacement, but no dice. "It's still working," they say. I understand budget issues, but these problems can easily add precious minutes to my work day, just in restarting the computer, or having unsaved work disappear because the computer died. I have budget issues, too, and when you work pay-per-visit, you don't get additional pay for the additional time. Very frustrating.
