I'm a new grad, got my BSN end of July 2015. Started my job search right away and put my resume in to several area hospitals for different positions. No prior experience except EMS training. I had great grades and two bachelor's degrees- graduated cum laude with my first biology degree and magna cum laude with my second nursing bachelor's. SO, that was my experience going in. I applied for pretty much everything at different hospitals EXCEPT med surg- that was my last choice and I wanted to see if I could get one of my dream jobs (ER or ICU) first.
So, I applied both ER and ICU at the same hospital- and I heard back about an interview for the ICU position about two weeks after I applied. I came in an interviewed with both HR and the nurse manager of the unit. They called me two days later about a job shadow, which I came in and did that very night on the shift I had applied for. The day after the job shadow the HR lady called and asked me for my references (FIVE of them), and also asked if I still wanted to interview for another position I had applied for in the meantime. I basically asked her (nicely, politically) how soon I might expect to hear back about the ICU job because that was my top choice. She told me that it would depend on how fast my references got back, so I hustled those out... it took a week but two days after all five of them were in (today) they called and offered me the job! I start August 31st with the next orientation class- I'm so excited!!!!
So, chin up other new grads. There ARE jobs and people willing to hire new grad nurses. I hope your job hunts go well!

Congratulations!!! You must have took NCLEX right away. I wish I had taken NCLEX right away so I wouldn't feel like this job search is futile since everyone probably got hired in June or July :[. I have my one and only hospital interview tomorrow and I hope it goes well.
I hear you very well...Good luck to you for tomorrow!!

Congrats on the job offer. It is surreal that it has been a year since I was in your position. I am glad that you were able to get into ICU. I am curious, Union, Regional, or Indy, because Indy was impossible to get an ICU job as a new grad a year ago and that is why 3 of my classmates (and me) moved to Louisville for ICU jobs.
