Lakeland Regional Medical Center

I'm considering a position at Lakeland Regional Medical Center in Lakeland. Has anyone worked there or heard anything about it, good or bad?

I read that they have been voted one of the best places to work for 5 consecutive years.

I was also looking online at homes, but I'm not sure how the surrounding areas are. I saw some nice homes in Eagle Lake & Winter Haven. I'm not even sure how far those areas are from the hospital, but they don't look too far on a map.

I would appreciate any info on the hospital & / or the Lakeland area.

Thank you very much!

I haven't anything to offer about the current state of Lakeland Regional, but I had to check out the thread when I saw the title -- I was born at Lakeland Regional (Lakeland Memorial Hospital, at the time), back when the OB department was in a Quonset hut out back left over from WWII, and had an appendectomy there when I was five ... Ah, memories ... (About the appy, not about being born!) :chuckle

One of my friends is an RN at Lakeland Regional. Right now she is working in oncology. She loves that hospital, it was her first job out of nursing school and they have been great. They were so flexible with her schedule when she had her son and very recently a little girl. She was allowed to only work part time and keep benefits. I am not sure where Eagle Lake is but Winter Haven has it good sides and bad sides like every where else.

You could also consider living in Plant City, lots of cute houses there and it's only 20 minutes from Lakeland. Plant City is in Hillsborough county. Winter Haven is in Polk county.

We kinda make fun of Polk county a little bit here in Tampa. The really wierd news stories that end up on forensic shows always seem to come out of Polk county. :D

Oh and Lakeland Regional is moving on up they are a level II trauma center as well now along with having a level II NICU.

A few months ago Polk county had a horrific 300 car pileup in the wee hours of a foggy morning while there was brush burn at the same time.

Lakeland Regional handled the bulk of it. They had it all burn victims, head trauma, you name it. Normally around here when something like that happens everyone is sent to Tampa General.

Anyways Lakeland Regional got a lot of kudos from civilians, fire rescue and law enforcement alike. They put a battle plan together and handled this tragedy with grace.

FYI, there's a Lakeland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph/Benton Harbor Michigan, but they have winters there, lol!

Thanks to everyone for responding.

You helped me to make my decision. I will definitely apply for a job there.

I may take a ride up there in a couple of weeks & check out the area & the houses.

Thanks again.

What are some of the bad/wierd things about Winter Haven that was mentioned above thread?
