Lady of the Lake Accelerated ASN

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.

Thanks!

Hi guys, I recently applied for the accelerated nursing program at olol tulane. It seems like acceptance is mainly based off prereq gpa. Is this true? And if so, for those of yall accepted in previous semesters, what were yalls prereq GPAs in the prereqs if u don't mind me asking? Or what was the lowest gpa u heard of getting in? Mine was a 3.46 in prereqs. I have many more positives in my resume'. I just feel like prereq gpa is the heaviest factor according to the website! Thanks in advance! Lastly, was it hard to find a place in new Orleans area with decent rent?

Fumanchuesday : I wonder the same thing, I also applied for the program recently, the answer I got when I asked the admissions office is that they take into consideration many things and it depends on the application pool of who all are applying, so the GPA may vary.

Also, I'm very familiar with the NO, I went to school there for my undergrad, finding decent rent is not hard, it just depend on your expectations, you get what u pay for, most people choose to stay in the surrounding cities like metairie or kenner, sometimes even the westbank, I would thoroughly research each place before you move there, like the amenities offered, location, etc. Most of the apartments has reviews, look at those especially. I hope this was helpful.

I appreciate everything that has been written, but after a few discussions with the admission process, they say that the essay is almost as important as the actual grades. This program is not as difficult to get in as some local schools. At Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne I wasnt approved due only to grades. They have a point system and the total could be 223 pts. 30 for each A, 20 for each b. etd. In previous years it took 185-190 to get into the program. The lowest going into their fall was 210. Which meant all A's in the 4 prereqs and 90+ on the Teas.

I figured they used my grades more like a check sheet. If you had above a 3.0 you were OK.

As for rent, I have checked out several rental units near Tulane, St. Charles, close to the Qtr and all move the Kenner/Metairie. I finally chose one of the Tonti Properties. They have about 3 or 4 properties that are all studios which are really close to a one bedroom. They are about 450 sq ft for about $470-480. One is called Summit and another is Lake View or Lake Villas. The one unit doesnt have a pool, but they have covered parking. I got a 1 br for $615. It is 650 sq ft and is $630. You need to get a deposit in ASAP. They dont "hold" apt's unless you put up the application fee and a deposit. They do a thorough financial check. Two girls, one in OLOL the other from Delgado were denied due to lack of income proof. They have student contacts and you can get in for 6 months and then month to month. The grounds are well kept. They dont have W/D's in the unit but have a a very clean WD room that is card opperated. Its costs 1.25 per load in the washer and Dryer. Also if you get in and use a reference that individual gets a $200 credit to their account.

There are two tonti's. All are located in the Metairie/Kenner area. I think for the money, this is the best option. If you like the noise of the qtr or st. Charles, you might find a low cost share rental. Most things near Tulane look at about $600+ and 700+ if you it really nice. Most of the rental units smell musty etc. Also be aware of the units from Bruno. There are about 5-6 different properties, I looked at two and both needed the gated parking that they had and the units were crappy.

Hope some of this helped. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thank you both, kaypee and bundi. Both of y'all provided great info. Good luck to everyone in the program and to those that are still waiting to get in. I did speak with someone in admissions at olol and was told that the last pool of applicants at the tulane campus was slightly weaker than the other two accelerated programs. She said that they actually had to dip down a little lower than the 3.0 requirement and accepted someone with a 2.98 bc a lack of 3.0+ applicants. They said it all depends on who all applies. I feel somewhat comfortable with my position in the process, but would like to know soon whether or not I get in. I noticed in previous discussions that it took atleast 2 months before hearing any update on acceptance. Thanks again for rent info; I have been checking craislist and the metarie and kenner rent seems doable. Good luck again to y'all.

Fumanchuesday: I really hope its two months b/c I was told we wouldn't hear anything until April. I wass you luck!

Yes, Craigslist is very helpful.

Bundi356: if you are not successful in the 2nd semester do u have to start all over again or pick up with the 2nd semester once it comes around again?

Yeah, I saw that the last January 15th applicants found out on like April 8th. I also saw that the August 15th applicants found out around October 25th. So yeah, I guess it probably will be a little closer to the 3 month mark. I also noticed that the past 2 groups of applicants were not interviewed. Is this something that they have done away with? I saw where it is mentioned in the 2009-2010 catalog. I have not been able to locate a current catalog, so I don't know if anything has changed permanently in regards to the interview process. Does anyone know where I might find the 2010-2011 catalog. All I know is it hasn't even been a month and not knowing my future is killing me. I hope that we can keep this thread going and post updates as they are presented. I really want to call OLOL and ask for updates, but I know that will only make me more anxious. Does anybody know how many applied/ how many get accepted?

Edit: Nevermindthe catalog question, I found the current catalog

I'm anxiously awaiting also! I applied to both Tulane and East Jefferson, so I just want to hear word from somebody. From what I gathered is that interviews vary but they did do away with the references, or at least that is what I told when I called admissions.

Looking back at the threads it seems like around 50 then orientation is a different, then the end of the semester is like 20-30, so who knows!

I really hope they tell us before April, yes putting your future on hold sucks, especially when there is relocation involved.

Let's keep each other posted as we hear things!

Where will you be relocating from? I currently live in Shreveport and will have to move down there if/when i get accepted.

I also found something that you might want to read if you have not yet. On the pdf listed below it says:

"APPLICANTS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THEIR STATUS APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH

AFTER THE APPLICATION DEADLINE." I hope this is correct!!!

www.ololcollege.edu/PDFS/AP/Acceleratednursinginstructions.pdf

The link is a little funny on here. Try coping and pasting it in your search bar if it doesn't take you straight there.

I will be relocating from Houston, to be honest it won't be all that rough relocating since I know some many people there, plus my boyfriend lives there. The only thing is getting my son situated in school, that's my biggest worry that and figuring out how to pay for school if accepted.

Called and got an update... the answer I received about when we would find out of acceptance or rejection was, "usually not til close to the end of the semester, but this year will be even longer because we had soooo many applicants" She also added that there will be no interviews this year. I know this information is not much, but i figured I would share.

OMG! I hope that doesn't hurt our chances of getting it, since there's so many applicants. Fingers will be crossed!

Hey everyone! I am also anxiously waiting to hear my fate about the Accelerated Program. I am so tempted to call everyday just to see if they have mailed out letters, but I know it won't be until around April. I think I'm going to apply to BRCC as well, just in case. Good luck everyone! I really hope we all get in!
