Lady of the Lake Accelerated ASN

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.

Thanks!

I had a problem with getting the flu vaccine too. Every place that I called stated that its not flu season and they don't have any vaccine's available until September.

Walgreens clinics are carrying the flu shot, at least that's what I was told when I called. Also, some community health clinics also carry it for around $20. Call ahead to make sure!

Do you all think that they will understand if we don't have it? From what I understand, the flu shot is only good for the current strand of flu, so would we have to take it again, once flu season begins again?

I called Walgreens when I first received my Health packet and I was told no flu vaccine is available until September. I also called Health & Safety at OLOL and the lady told me it was ok because its not flu season. Be sure to call OLOL Health and Safety to let them know that is the only thing you will be missing in your Health packet.

Thanks for the info!

Does anyone know what color scrubs we need? I think its galaxy blue but not 100%, I have a card for four free sets of scrubs through my job but it expires today, I tried calling the school but no one is answering

Update: (viewer discretion is advised) My wife has been doing orientation at Ochsner this week. Today she met a new grad from the OLOL Accelerated program (he was doing orientation as well). Basically I have good news and bad news. OK bad news first: The guy said that the class started with 50 and ended with 25 (that's a 50% failure rate). Of those 25 that graduated, he said that not one of them made an A in one single class throughout their whole time in the program WOW. He also said that the class that most people failed out on was of course Pharmacology with 9 failing in that class.

Now time for the possibly good news: My wife got me his phone number and he said for me to call him. He said he has a lot of the course material saved to his hard drive, so he could hopefully send it to me. Additionally, he said that he thinks our class might have a slightly easier time, considering the fact that we are the last class and if we fail, we will not be able to repeat classes like they did.

Please take this info as a means of motivating yourself, rather than discouraging yourself. This really just opened my eyes and I am prepared for the worst.

Great info! I wonder what's so difficult, I mean I know its accelerated but what is it? After pharm class, those thats left should finish, right?

He said the class is like drinking water out of a fire hose. He said it is just so much information, so fast. The way that he made it sound was that 9 failed during pharm and the other 16 failed or quit after pharm.

So they went easy on him? Is that what's he's saying? We all need to have study groups or something, man that's crucial!
