Lady of the Lake Accelerated ASN

Published

Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.

Thanks!

Hello, I have been reading this forum for a while and decided to join! The wait has been INSANE! and I cant believe that the BR people get to know before Tulane, which starts at least 2 months earlier! Anyways, I called today to ask when Tulane campus would make decisions. They said they had no idea, because the committee had not even met yet. I said well do you think it will be this month? then the lady said that the committee meeting was not even on the calendar yet and had not been scheduled!

No, thanks. I have a family and I'm not making my husband move just because of school.

No waiting list. I didn't have all of my pre-reqs done. I was taking them at OLOL this summer, which I am no longer doing. I am applying to Baton Rouge General in the September and hope for the best. I got on the waiting list last year while I was taking most of my pre-reqs. All I need for them now is Physiology, which I'll take in the fall I guess.

Good luck to everyone!

Magaroni- thank you for the info even though its not exactly what I wanted to hear. I always wondered if any of the "Guests" Currently Reading This Page had any knowledge outside of what we did. I encourage any other lurkers/ guests to participate in the forum if they can add to our "cloud of knowledge".

Panda: Good luck and Im glad you decided to take your prereqs elsewhere considering the cost at OLOL

BTW congratulations to everyone that got accepted. Sorry to everyone that didnt get in. And Good Luck to everyone that is still forced to wait!

And is it just me or do these other campuses besides BR seem really unorganized?

LSUPanda, I didn't get in either. I didn't have all my pre- reqs done, but I still thought I had a really good chance. I'm so upset. My husband was shocked. I don't have a backup plan. Guess it's time to get one.

I really am happy for everyone who got in! Good luck.

I'm so sorry :( I thought I had a good chance, too. Did you apply to BR?

I'm applying to Baton Rouge General in September, which was my first choice anyway. It's 2 years, but I'll take that over nothing.

I applied to BR and the two New Orleans programs, also. I guess I will apply to SELU's accelerated program in the fall. I'll have all my pre-reqs done by then. Plus it's much cheaper than OLOL. I know everything happens the way it is meant to. I just had to be upset for a little while. I really hope you get into the program at the General. :)

I have to remind myself that this is not the end of the world. I'm not going through what the people of Japan are. That helps me put it all into perspective. Again, good luck to everyone.

The deadline has already passed for SELU, so I'm assuming you mean in Fall for the Spring semester. As someone stated on our SELU thread the cutoff for the regular program was a 3.448 and the accelerated was slightly higher. All I know is that my buddy with a 3.5 got waitlisted. So hopefully that gives you some kind of idea.

Keep your chin up though. Worst case scenario you start a little later than you would have liked. Unless you're 98 years old, you have all the time in the world. Even if you are 98, you still may have a chance. I've seen some people that had to be at least in their mid 80s in my classes. They may not be that old. I'm terrible with age approximation. My lab partner was talking about his children earlier in the week and it caught me by surprise. I could have sworn he was 18 or 19 until he showed me his driver's license. I felt incredibly stupid when it read 36. :D

Hello...I recieved my letter yesterday and have been put on the waiting list. Should I just let my hopes up. The wait bothered me this long and I don't think I can wait any longer....

Sugrad10 Did it say on your letter what number you were on the waitlist? I read in previous posts that you can call and they will tell you what your number is. I heard of a girl that was number 10 on the wait list and still got in. I hope this helps!

Trenia, yes I plan to apply in the fall for the Spring semester. I feel so much better today. I didn't have enough pre-reqs done for OLOL. So i'm pretty sure i wont get in to any of their accelerated programs. By September I will have finished everything I need for the SELU application. If I am not mistaken, that program is an Accelerated BSN which works out better for me since I plan on going on to get an NP license.

And I am 35, which feels old sometimes, but you're right. What is a few more months in the

long run? Anyhoo, everyone have a great weekend. And again congrats to those who got

accepted! :)

Yes it does seem very unorganized, I'm a little worried about that, but will prevail if I get in.

Good luck to you all on your back up plans, this may be a blessing in disguise!
