Hi. I am very interested in the accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge. Can anyone give me any information on this program? I've seen the information that is available online. However, I am looking for information from experienced insiders such as: getting accepted, true level of difficulty, etc. This will be a major career change for me, and I do not want to make a bad decision. I have a 3.6 gpa from SLU w/ AA in OSH and BA in Gen Studies. I consider myself a capable, hard working student but all I have heard is HORROR stories.
Thanks!
Sugrad10: They may have changed things up... Here is the link to the other forum where I read that if you are interested: https://allnurses.com/la-nursing-programs/olol-accelerated-asn-455665.html
It could be false info, then again, we really dont know if something has changed or if admissions just doesnt want to get hounded by callers, etc. Either way I think if yall are not already ranked, they may just wait and see how many spots become available from those that decline, before they decide who gets in from the alternates. Good luck either way!
CuriousKayPee: Im not sure if you were talking to me or not, but I havent received anything in the mail yet... It really makes me think I was not considered for BR at all. Maybe since they had so many applicants, they only considered people for their first choice.
Pharm: Just a question, why not consider Baton Rouge General Nursing? It starts in January and is a 2 year program. If you did the Southeastern Accelerated, it's what, 15 or 18 months long? A few more months wouldn't be that bad ya know? I'm just throwing that out there. While I would have loved to do the 10 months accelerated, I think I would rather take my time with going 2 years. Besides, BRG was my first choice :)
I'm 26 and I have a family and want to add more to it, so I just have to keep telling myself that it's better late than never. Plus, BRG doesn't require as many pre-reqs as the other schools.
I agree with Fumanchuesday. I have not recieved anything either. I live in Baton Rouge and put Tulane first on my application because it starts first. I also wanted to be considered for the others. Now that everyone that applied for BR has received accepted, rejected, and alternate letters I feel that I was not looked at at all because I got nothing from them. It must have been because of the number of applicants. And the prereq checklist that they sent me in the mail when I applied only says "ASN ACC Tulane" out beside the blank that says program.
CuriousKayPee: I only knew about the alternates from another post I read in the past. This is the link

there are only 4 comments on the thread/link I believe this info is in the second comment
Oh ok, I received something just saying that they were waiting on the rest of my transcripts to come in, but when I actually got the letter they had made it already, so I tossed the letter and didn't notice any particular campus...this whole process is odd to me.
As always I will continue to wait!

fumanchuesday...the letter said that the Lake does not rank individuals for our Alternate List.... It is not possible to predict which candidate(s)will be selected by the Admissions Commitee should a vacancy occur, all alternates are considered for possible inclusion in the class
