Hi everybody:
I work in a 5 stars LTC facility in a Dementia Unit. I work 7-3 shift full time and every other weekend . Well, I having problems with lack of staff in my weekend to work, the other units are well staffed with regular staff, so no body understand what I am experiencing. I have no regular staff and every weekend work with different CNA'S from agency, they come 1 or 1 1/2 hour late and sometimes do not show up at all. It is horrible because from 7 am to 8 am or 8:30 am I am by myself trying to prevent falls because residents want to get up at the same time and I do not blame them that is the time they regularly get up for breakfast. Also, at the same time I am trying to do my med pass, checking BS administering Insulin, etc. Well, I have talk to management hundreds of time about that problem and they reassure me that they are working on it "We do not want you to leave". I have been working in this facility for almost two years and always the same problem. So far, I have been able to manage this situation keeping everybody safe, but I am afraid one day I will not. I am thinking in write a letter or send an Email to management to have proof that I have expressed my concerns about the situation. I would like to know your opinions. Thanks.

If they've been saying for 2 years they'll fix it and they haven't yet, I doubt they will. Move on and find another job.

I ran into the same thing at my facility on a daily basis. You might want to consider switching to a different area in your facility on a different shift. I did just that, and things run so much more smoothly and organized where I am now.

If staffing is that bad, it's not a 5 star facility.

Agreed. A 5 star facility has a rating of 5 stars across the board.
Believe or not it is a 5 starts facility.

Congratulations!! You and the dedicated staff,at your facility, made it a 5 star facility!! Unfortunately, the management staff is taking advantage of you. If they valued your hard work and dedication to your patients, they would have found staff along time ago.. I've always kept a log with dates, times and who I've spoken to, regarding my concerns. I would Definetly send an email to them. Always keep a paper trail. Remember if you didnt chart it, you didn't do it. All that stress must be taking a toll on you. If there was a fall with an injury or a medication error, I don't think the management staff would be behind you. You've worked very hard for that license, don't let anyone take it away from you. If they were so concerned about you leaving they would be out working on the floor getting their hands dirty! Good luck!!
Thanks for your response.
