Hey guys, I have a question. I had an interview with LAC+USC and received a letter that I passed the oral exam. I read in the letter that they are going to contact me if positions open up. I am a new grad RN. Have you been in my situation? How long does it take until they call you? Do we have another interview after the oral interview or this is it? Please share your experience with me..thank you
WOW! I feel somewhat relieved to know that there are other people waiting for a start date.... I interviewed for ICU on July 27 and got a job offer the following day in CT-ICU.... I completed my health screening on Aug. 26 and have been waiting since for a start date.... I have been soooo worried the past 2 weeks, wondering why they haven't given me a start date.... I called them last Friday and they told me, "just hang in there".. they're waiting for some paper work to be approved... I really want to start soon..... Hope I get to meet you soon, volunteer pioneer and others who got a job offer....
I'm in CT-ICU TOO! We will be working together! I want to start asap as well, but am really nervous since it's been so long since I've been in school.
During the interview when they asked me what unit I'd prefer out of the 3, I told them truthfully I wasn't sure, since the ICU I rotated at in nursing school was non-specific. I later said CT because it sounded the most interesting when the managers were describing their units; they didn't let me choose a second or third.. and I was pleasantly surprised that my poor (but honest) answer didn't hurt me in the end.
I had called them last week too since it was 3 weeks since I had heard anything, and they told me the same thing.. to stay put and that they would give us ample notice prior to getting a start date in place. This is so the people who are working can give a 2 week notice.. I personally am not working, and would like to start asap. I was hoping to start first week of Oct., but that's not looking too bright.
I'm excited to meet you volunteer pioneer! :yeah: We're in the same situation, graduated last yr of december and I'm not working too. I turned down a per diem position because it starts this October. I didn't want a conflict in schedule with county because I thought I would start October. I kind of feel rusty in terms of my skills so I feel nervous too. But thank god we're starting in med-surg first before we go up to train for ICU then train again for CT-ICU!
@nurseJaydee, and Kristi.W, thanks for the advice and words of encouragement. I did not leave the interview with a good feeling. We will see what happens. They told me it takws 2-3 weeks to hear back. But from reading other posts, I know some people have heard back much sooner than that.
@NurseJaydee,. have you heard anything yet? how was your interview?
Thank you for the encouragement! :) I think I saw you now... Where you wearing a suit-type outfit with a green shirt? Mines was at 3 and if so, I went right after you. I thought it went well... I just called to see if there was anything else I could interview for and Sue said, "They haven't made a decision on your last interview yet, so hang in there." I didn't even ask about my interview... So I guess that's good news, they're still deciding. Let's keel our hope up!

Thats definitely unfortunate to be sent on an interview for a unit that doesn't hire new grads...I'm sorry, don't give up and keep applying there they need nurses thats for sure!
