LAC+USC interview new grad RN

I am scheduled for an interview at LAC/USC Med surge on 09/21/11. I tend to freeze up when I am stressed so I want to be well prepared. I would love to get input. Especially from those of you who have been through this interview process. Thank you in advance.

Definitely breath and relax beforehand the nurse managers are I'm sure all really nice. I try to think about interviewers as new friends I am just meeting and they want to know about me and that has helped me to be less nervous. As for the interview itself I don't know if everyone gets the same questions but I didn't feel intimidated with the questions I was asked just be prepared for things that may include chain of command, prioritizing and assessing, patients rights. My interview felt pretty quick I think around 10 or so questions. I wish you the best of luck!! Let us know how it goes :)

Hey everyone! I interviewed for OB over a week ago and for Peds on Thursday. I still haven't heard anything yet but I will keep you guys updated. I also have a Med/Surg interview on Wednesday. I hope I get one of the positions lol...

Nursenotsonewgrad- What time is your interview? When you first get there, you're going to fill out a form. It's something like a short application form and then from there you wait to be called. Try to relax beforehand and take your time answering the questions. They ask behavioral and scenario type questions. Every interviewer I've had asked different questions. Good luck!

CrisNICURN-Congrats on getting the NICU! That is my dream position! I hope your first day went well!

SEVRN_13- Don't give up hope! Try to follow up again and if you didn't get that position, ask if you can interview for something else. Let us know how it goes :)

Hi I took my service exam on August 9th and I received the letter on September 6th.

Hi everyone--
Sorry for butting into this thread, but I got excited when I found this thread today and meeting other newbies at LAC USC. I actually interviewed a looong time ago for ICU-- interviewed and was offered the position same day August 6. I passed medical and background check a looong time ago-- but the recruiters told me they're still waiting for the positions to be passed, and have been reluctant to even give me a start date, so I've been holding my breath since mid august to even get a start date
Anyway, nice meeting all of you and hope to do so in person really soon

WOW! I feel somewhat relieved to know that there are other people waiting for a start date.... I interviewed for ICU on July 27 and got a job offer the following day in CT-ICU.... I completed my health screening on Aug. 26 and have been waiting since for a start date.... I have been soooo worried the past 2 weeks, wondering why they haven't given me a start date.... I called them last Friday and they told me, "just hang in there".. they're waiting for some paper work to be approved... I really want to start soon..... Hope I get to meet you soon, volunteer pioneer and others who got a job offer....

Congrats Mamda on the future job :) I am still waiting to hear from HR that my background cleared it's been 3 weeks ahh!! I know I have a clean background but still makes me nervous not hearing anything yet. I called today and left a message so I hope to hear soon! I got hired into oncology definitely excited and anxious to start. I hope we all get to start soon :)

so they just send an email with your schedule? did it take you about 3 weeks then to get that? I am just dying waiting...especially since I'm not working right now ...

Mine was a week... I went to HR for background check on aug 1, then got an e-mail about my health screening on aug. 8. Someone from HR will call you to make sure that you did receive the e-mail. However, my health screening was scheduled on aug 23.. So that was a long wait. I went back to county hosp. on aug 26 to get my health clearance. Then, I submitted it to the nurse recruiter. For your health screening, don't forget to bring a copy of your MMR and hep B titers, TB skin test result, and CXR result w/in a year (if positive skin test) for TB clearance. Bringing these items with you will speed things up. Hope this info will help...

CONGRAts to everyone who interviewed, and passed and got offer jobs! ok so Here is an update. After numerous times of calling and leaving messages for the recruiter, I finally emailed her. Which is hilarious, she emailed me back in less than 20 minutes. saying that I was not chosen for the position. I clearly remember her asking me which department I wanted to interview with, and I said can I interview for all three? She replied with NO. Then she went on to say im sure BURN ICU would be cool, thats when I had to interupt her and ask, would they even hire me because I'm a new grad rn. She replied with ugh, They haven't had a training for a new grad for a very long time. But we will see. My opinion the interview went extremely well, the only thing that Lacked was MY NO EXPERIENCE. so basically I was put on the spot for failure,even the nurse recruited knew they DONT HIRE NEW GRAD RN's for the BURN ICU. other ICU's Im sure but, whatever. I have tried calling and asking about other RN positions, but to no answer. Still keeping my head up :):angthts:

I'm sorry you weren't chosen. When I interviewed for ICU, the nurse managers asked me which unit i want and why. After giving my answer, they said, "Good! That's what we're looking for.." I chose burn as my second choice and they told me that unit is not hiring at all.
