For all of you who have started or finished class...did your teacher require you to have lab coats for Anatomy lab..and if so where did you purchase them?

To date, I have never seen anyone wearing a lab coat. I wouldnt worry about it. I havent ever heard of anyone wearing one to lab. I guess all schools have different requirements.

we weren't required to have them but it was suggested it would be a good idea. Many people brought there own, they also had some communial ones in the back room. I just wore clothes that I could easily wash. you deal with alot stinky messy things so its not a bad idea. Not sure where people got them though.

You can get them at any nursing uniform store or on line. For Microbiology, we were advised either to get a lab coat or wear an old shirt with long sleeves to protect ourselves. In Anatomy we didn't have to wear them. Each school has its own requirements. Good luck!

Nope, I wasn't required either. It was never even suggested. We weren't required to in micro either, although it was mentioned in the course outline if not by the instructor herself. I'm in physiology and general chemistry I right now and goggles are a requirement in both classes but not lab coats. The gen chem professor did warn us to wear clothes that we wouldn't mind being stained though!

The only time we were required to wear lab coats for A&P was when we were working with the cadaver. The school already had them hanging in the back room.

We weren't required for Micro or A&P--but honestly, I think they could have been used. Particularly with A&P when dissecting parts--I once had to wipe off some eyeball juice off my lab partner's chest (very romantic lol) But with Micro I think they should be mandatory even though we never had any big accidents-the possibility was indeed there and we had to bleach clean our work area's before and after class every single lab and you could possibly ruin some clothing that way.

We did for Micro but the bookstore sold paper ones that were cheap and lasted all semester for most of us.
ITA with you about micro. And don't forget about that crystal violet in Gram staining... that stuff gets all over everything and is a pain to get out!

I had to wear a lab coat in anatomy lab because we worked with cadavers all semester. They sold lab coats in the university book stores, and you can also check any kind of uniform supply store that carries things like scrubs. My school had some communal ones also. If you're working with cadavers and wear a lab coat, I would highly advise bleaching it somewhat regularly to keep it clean and get the preservative smell out. It is very... pervasive.
