LA County Nursing Applicants for Spring 2017-Generic Option

U.S.A. California

Published

Hello. Well I see that no one has posted anything for Spring 2017 applicants and I know that I'm feeling a little nervous here so I'd like to know if there's anyone out there on the same boat that I am.

for health clearance, we call HR and make an appt right?

You must first complete that online Human Resources form mentioned in the pre-registration orientation, and once it's approved LA County sends you an email asking you to call them to schedule your life scan appt.

Has anyone heard from the life scan

For those who were accepted, can you list some pros and cons for the schools that you were admitted to? I read earlier that someone is commuting from palm springs...that's like a 2-hour commute is it not? What makes this school so much better than other CCs or universities?

I'm commuting from Palmdale, and it will be tough, traffic is no joke. But my friend graduated from this school, and she had nothing but great things to say about it. It is a tough school, I saw it first hand with her and how she wanted to quit at times but she stuck it out and she was glad she did because she said this program made her stronger, the professors are so knowledgeable and the clinicas are very tough but you learn so much. Also, I had a classmate that was an RN and she would tell me that this school is very respected because they knew that when the students would go do their clinicals at her hospital , they would be relieved they don't have to baby sit them much as other students from other schools. And finally , their NCLEX scores, they are above the 90's and that says a lot for a school.

How did your friend perform -- grade wise? Is it impossible to achieve a 3.5+ gpa? Some other comments emphasized the difficult nature of this program. I wouldn't doubt it. I'm just not sure if its "worth it." I want to continue my education in the future, so I would need decent grades. I put in a lot of effort when it comes to academia but sometimes there is that one professor that is nearly impossible to work with.

Mak sure you do really well on your core bio classes so you can apply to any nursing program and you increase your chances to be accepted. I applied to several schools and this one only accepted me, I had a 4.0 on my science courses and a 3.6 on overall GPA. I went to their pinning ceremony for nursing class of 2016, and only 7 people out of 50 something achieved a 3.0 and 2 or 3 people a 3.5. What the nursing director said during her speech really impacted me, she said " - a nurse is not valued by her grades or highest GPA, but by her ability to think critically, make decisions and be able to put into work what she learned in class into real, life situations..." you can be book smart but suck at clinical s and according to my friend, if you can't perform during clinical that will get you kicked out, immediately because that's someone's life you have in your hands and you need to be confident in what you are doing. This is a well respected school , and even though I will be making hard sacrifices I'm glad I got into this school, I wouldn't have it otherwise. Good luck to you

Anyone heard back from LiveScan?

Not yet, at least not me

For those who are waiting for livescan results, apparently you have to call the school to find out yourself cause my friend told me she called on Friday morning and they told her hers is cleared. I then called them immediately Friday afternoon, but no one picked up so I left a message.

Not yet, but I also just did mine last week. We schedule the health appt after we get cleared for livescan right?

Yes, Book the health Clearance as soon as you're cleared!
